Guest guest
Korey, The main problem with tibes possibly causing hearing loss is that they plug up (they are there to drain fluid off the ear) and when the pressure builds up they blow, rupturing the ear drum... some tiny tears will heal on their own.. larger ones wont.. but then even if they do heal scar tissue doesn't vibrate well.. This is part of my daughter's hearing loss, her ear drum has ruptured 4 times.. she's on her 12th set of PE tubes, has had three surgeries (other than tubes) on her ears, severe/prfound loss in that ear.. She has non functioning eustation (sp?) tubes, and will have to have PE tubes the rest of her life. Casey charge@... minnow@... Mom to Dawn 20, Ken 9 ADHD, and 6 CHARGE. Guest guest
, Dawn was that way when she got her first set of tubes.. went into histerics at the vacuum cleaner, docs told me that it was because after getting rid of the fluid she could finally here it for the first time. Guest guest
Hi everyone, sorry to worry you all about the ear tubes then disappear again for a few days. I really don't have too many answers yet-never ask the right ones at the right time. It is a complication of tubes, to get a perforated ear drum. It is on the consent to surgery that you sign. The risk is even higher when you have the long lasting tubes placed because the are a bigger tube, therefor nessecitating a larger slit in the eardrum to accomodate them. sometimes the slit doesn't close correctly, esp when multiple tubes have been placed because there is more scarring in the area from past healing. We always get a Rx ear drop to place post-op 3x a day to prevent the clogging of the tubes that I think you are all speaking of. After the tube is placed there is some bloody drainage that can clog the tube. these drops are supposed to help disipate that. F, This is totally out of my field since I know nothing of the heart defect you write of. I would however be HIGHLY cautious of getting a surgery that sounds like it is cutting of the circulation to Jillian's arm and you have to sit and wait weeks for collatoral circulation to HOPEFULLY kick in. I would think they would be able to give you statistics of how often it doesn't happen and then what. I can't even type what the answer to that question is. I hope you get a second opinion and not from someone they send you to, because i can already tell you that it will match their opion. I am sorry if I am being such an alarmist, please let me know what happens. Elaine, I was sorry to hear of Jack's kidney reflux. I am glad though that you found out about it and it is simple enough to treat. Guest guest
Jeanne, That is one of the reasons I kept asking about the tubes. One time he went to surgery to have his eyes looked at and to take play dough he put in his ear out (I'm sure he was maiking his own ear molds and I asked him about changing them. He said the placement was good so why change them. He is a very well respected ENT in this area. He has gotten alot better about his ear infections but there are Dr's ALWAYS checking his ears. He also has had a huge growth spurt and the tubes haven't come out on their own, now I'm getting worried after your response. karen

Guest guest
Hi, y'all! Of course, I've gotta add my $.02 about tubes. We're new to this. Aubrie's only had hers since Sept or so. But I'm fairly certain the ENT said they might fall out in a few months or they might last a year or more. I can't remember what the longest was that he said. But I really think I got the impression that lasting a few years was possible. Perhaps just not likely. I don't understand why it'd be a problem if a kid had tubes that were staying in place for a long time. Wouldn't that be better than re-puncturing the ear drum to place new ones all the time? Wouldn't that >be better than re-puncturing the ear drum to place new ones all the >time? , has had seven or eight sets of tubes (I have lost count). It seems about once a year (usually winter) the doc thinks its a good idea to put them in again. Then when they fall out, he says, " lets see how he does " . Then the next winter, we put them in again. They are out now, but the last set stayed in for over a year. One fell out, but the other came out but got lodged in the eardrum and a granuloma grew over it. This is just scar tissue, I think, but it had to be removed. That's the only reason I think you don't want them to stay in too long, but even so, he had surgery to take it out, and it was painless and VERY minor. , mom to (9) ChArGE S.
