well, he is running a temperature this evening and is quite grumpy.

he also has an all over dry itchy skin thing going on, similar to an

eczema outbreak. he has been fluctuating between lethargy and high

energy today. i'm assuming these are good signs (i hope). i'm pretty

paranoid right now - we are coming off of a horrible 4 weeks where he

went from having RSV to strep throat. so, if anybody has any words of

encouragement, i would love to hear them :)

thanks again,

jennie

Here is some encouragement for you....

It took us over 45 days to get the facial rash you observed. I would

say your little guy is responding rapidly and dramatically. We had

weepy crying for no reason off an on the first week. Then we had

insomnia the third week. This is reaction to the meds.

Jennie,

I am so excited for you. We are starting Valtrex in 10 days ( trying

to get the yeast under control first with Duflucan)........and I

pray to have symptons like what you have. I pray for you and your

little one . Are you also on Diflucan or some other anti-fungal and

if so how much. My son is 6 and we are planning to get him on

baord with 250mg of Valtrex 3 times a day, but by the sounds of what

I read on our web group here, maybe we should consider more.

Let me know about the Diflucan and keep us updated.

Team,

One more question. When you get start valtrex, do you need to do

Diflucan everyday or do you only use it when you see the yeast

flare up ?

Regards

our boy was on diflucan and then we switched to ketaconazole, which

was the worst mistake of our lives - it basically blocked the

absorption of his seizure med and most his supplements - his

biomedical pathways shut down for a month. he ended up on a new

seizure med which can't be taken with prescription antifungals. so,

basically, since he does have a bad yeast problem, we are treating it

with a LOT of probiotics, biotin and grapefruit seed extract. so far,

so good :)

we seem to be getting most of our symptoms in the evening and he seems

to be fluctuating up and down. last night he again got the black

circles and went from increased energy to lethargy and back and forth.

he also kept running a low-grade temperature off and on and the mouth

" rash " came back, but not as bad. i increase the dose today to our

destination of 250 mg., 3 times per day.

we are cautiously optimistic. he has most of the soft markers as a

viral kid, but not the hard. well, i guess one hard marker was his

french porphyrin test did come back indicating a viral issue, but his

titers, etc. have always tested fine. he brought his daddy his jacket

last night and it was obvious he was asking to go outside.

Why did the Nizoral do that? Can you provide me with more info.? My

son is taking that now.

thanks.

all i can really tell you is that i did find a paper (maybe somebody

here provided it to me???) that showed that nizoral can block the

absorption of taurine. taurine's been a big player for our son. i

also found evidence that prescription antifungals can interact with

anticonvulsants either by causing the anticonvulsant to be stronger in

the blood stream or weaker. for us, getting our son's biomedical

pathways opened up and functioning have been key for his health and

we've worked hard to get him there (non-sweater, doesn't excrete

toxins, etc.) and it really seemed to be a cascading affect that was

very scary. i think that is what actually allowed his body to come

down with RSV and then strep within two weeks of each other (after

finally getting him to the point where he wasn't getting sick at the

drop of a hat).

i definitely think this could be very dependent per child, but i do

believe that if your child is taking an anticonvulsant, you should

think long and hard and do your research before administering

prescription antifungals.

i hope that helps.
