Somehow I had heard of Lord Byron and wanted to name him something important. My brother two years younger wanted , so he became Byron. He still lets me know he doesn't like the Byron. But then I don't like my names either, so maybe he was lucky our parents didn't pick his name. We have two sisters in town who are called Wave and Rain. Now, their parents must have been hippies. Do you really think your parents would have gone along with Humpy and Dumpty? Since my dad was in the house, and would have confused us both, the decided to call me Bobby. But that was shortened to Bob, which I never really liked. My nicknames include Bobby Boo, Boo Boo, Bob spelled backward Bob, Bobb-o, Bobby J, called Bob, Bobarino, JR, , and bob-boozebe, but... Do you know who you are? Maybe that is why you named your liver. Have you given names to other organs too? My second daughter I named Tara phine. Tara after the Tara on All My Children, she was still nice then, sweet, and phine after my dearly beloved grandmother. It was intended to call her Tara Jo. But after a couple of weeks of calling her that, on a day when I must have been particularly tired, I said that was too long and shortened it to TJ. And the family with the exception of my mother picked it up. She thought TJ sounded like a boy. When she went to school, they called her Tara Jo, but her older sister started calling her Teejch, sounding out her initials. She never complained about any of these nicknames until her father started calling her Phine, from the last part of phine. Eventually, everybody but me started calling her Tara. Since we didnt know what was the cause of the pain, Sharon just said " I am going to called the pain " BILLYBOB " to avoid confusion. So, bob it was. After my positive liver biopsy, we then knew that bob was in fact my liver. I was the one who named my spleen " Spleen Mcqueen " and the late mister " Gallbladder " . She always stayed nice I think, while Tara on All My Children where I got the name for my second daughter wasn't so nice after a while. Of the three we have in our home now, I couldn't even begin to remember when what piece of hardware was installed when. Just about two weeks ago, my second office computer decided to end it all. So, I took it to the puter doctor because my brain fog is too intense for me to do it now. Turns out, the tech got a real chuckle out of the fact that it was still running on a 40 gig hard drive and that brand was unstable at best. So, he replaced the hard drive and ghosted the contents of the old one onto it and it's now running just fine again with no lose of information. But, my last computer, I did install a new hard drive, and even hooked up the old one as a secondary drive. I had to call my daughter a few times, and when they came over a couple of months later, they rearranged some things to make it better. My daughter and I had put it together to start with from individual parts. She knew where they went, and I got to put them where she told me to put the ones I didn't know where to put. So, when people asked me what brand computer I had, I told them it was a Jan, a one of a kind. I did have to reinstall all my programs, im programs, printer, find out how to get sound again, that is the last thing I have done. I still have to put Nortons back on, but I have been told that I have to take off AVG which the repair guy put on to be protected when he was working with it. Internet service guy told me to take it off before putting Norton's on or it could cause problems having both programs on at the same time. Wouldn't mind leaving AVG on it, but should have some time left on Norton's and my back up disks were created by Norton's, so can't install those without Norton's. I think I will wait for awhile, had a reason to do so, but can't remember it right now. I am sure I will think of it again. How am I doing. I am feeling guilty for feeling so angry at my cardio's office staff because they goofed things up so that I probably won't get my angioplasties until the 29th of July. I called in two weeks ago tomorrow to schedule it since I had been told they could do it the beginning of July. Was told I would be called back the next day after she called the hospital. That was Monday. When I hadn,t heard by Friday, called. Was given to someone else who claimed she had been sick for 9 days and everyone had everything all goofed up. She was going to straighten it out and call me on Monday. Tues. I called back, she hadn't done anything. She told me that they wouldn't be able to do it until the 29th because the doctor was going on vacation this coming week. I asked if his partner could do it. She said she would have to talk to the doctor and the two doctors would have to talk. Well, I called early Friday morning after hearing nothing, got the answering service answering machine. Hung up with the idea of calling later. Was a busy day, so finally called at 3:57. Got a message that they closed at 4 on Friday's, must have put it on early that day, So, I talked to the answering service. She informed me that my doctor was going on vacation starting Wed. and the other doctor wasn't coming back until Wednes. So, when are these doctors going to talk to get me in earlier? I have never had trouble with this doctor before, but I have had trouble with his staff years ago in his other office. But these people have been pretty stable, long term employees. Usually very helpful. so GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRWL. My feet and particularly my left arm have swelling up for about 2 months now, hoping that the angioplasty will help with that. But it could be my kidneys too, or the liver causing. But, my last blood work for the kidneys showed a GFR of 41 up from 30 in April. Different lab, so waiting to get done in the same lab before I leap for joy about that. Is it possible to get swelling in an arm from cirrhosis? or is the regular cirrhosis swelling actually caused by kidney damage, decrease in function? I had a great morning. I went to a memorial service for a guy who was the drive behind getting our church started. He died at almost 92. A few tears, but lots more laughing. Found out a lot about him I didn't know before. And his wife is a sweetheart. Three pastors were in attendance and a three more would have liked to have been there but had conflicts. Death is a victory for people like him. And he wasn't ill for very long either. Started out with an infected toe. His wife is 88 or 89 and she is going to continue living in their house in a park. Her family came down with the idea of packing her up and taking her home, but she wanted to stay and all the neighbors promised to take care of her, so they said fine. It's the middle and southern states that scare me. Of course, I don't mean to even sound like that is everyone !!! Definitely not true.... Also, the fact remains that we Canadians were just as scarred by those terrorists an the US. I do live in British Columbia where a lot of those snow birds hale from and in fact, my parents could be counted amongst those that thought about skirting around our laws on the regular medical. H... we even personally know people from the US that are forced to buy their scripts from Canada because of the price difference. It's all just so politically stupid !!! Now, even you would have to have a passport to come to Canada because of those politics. Of course, if one has nothing to hide, getting a passport is only inconvenient because of the time thing and if you are driving down like my son is, then for awhile we can still use what they call an enhanced driver's license. The town I live in is a snowbird town, and a high percentage of our winter population is from Canada, so I am aware of the insurance problem. I know some people who want to stay here longer than it is allowed to be out of Canada will fly home for a few days to meet the requirement and then come back here until the temps get high enough that they want to go home. We had to get what they call pass cards to go into Mexico to get medications and shop. Same as with Canada and the Caribbean. I am originally from Minnesota and it was nice knowing that we had neighbors on our borders who were friendly and the border was open. I even had relatives in Regina, and still do have relatives in British Columbia, but not in contact with them. Sometimes people think I am nosy when I ask questions about the differences in how they grew up and live and how I did. But, I find them so interesting. The second doctor did take care of me once when I went into the er and was admitted at a time when my doctor, his partner, was on vacation. What bothers me the most about the wait, other than the danger of damage to my heart and body from lack of oxygen, etc is that I will have to continue restricting my activity level and not do things I enjoy doing, and then being exhausted when I do the least little thing. It isn't a test I need done, it is an angioplasty which some people and some doctors consider surgery. I do not, call it a procedure. But, it does take a week or so to get my strength back to normal for me after one. It is to clean out scar tissue which didn't stop growing in two arteries after my bypass surgery a year ago last April. Guest guest Posted July 5, 2009 Report Share Posted July 5, 2009 Gloria - you are lucky, my repair guy did everything he knew to try to get at least some pictures off the old drive, installed as a secondary to see if that would work, but it was the electrical system on the drive which was gone. Even when I install the latest backup, I will still be missing about 2 weeks of info from that drive including all the pictures I took off my phone 3 hours before it crashed because we were getting new cell phones, use the same card in my camera, so downloaded them all to the computer and wiped the card clean so I can continue to use it. Ordinarily, I would have backed them up on a CD within a few days, but 3 hours I just didn't get around to it. I will know now not to wipe the card clean until I have an exterior backup copy. Thanks to google, I do have all pictures sent to me since April since both my emails go through google now. Wasn't happy when my isp went to google email instead of having it on their own web site, but now I am grateful for those few pictures. Guest guest Posted July 5, 2009 Report Share Posted July 5, 2009 Gloria - the Minnesota governor at one time, or maybe it was a senator, arranged for buses to take people to Canada to buy their medications because it was so much cheaper. Before my meds were covered, I got all mine in Mexico where they are even cheaper than in Canada. Some meds I only paid about 1/10th of what they would have been at the nearest pharmacy. They have raised their prices some now, but still very reasonable. We have passcards which let us back in from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Since we weren't planning on going to any other country than Mexico for meds and dentists and eye doctors, didn't feel we needed the full passport. The passcards are a little cheaper, but not much. And they fit like a credit card in a billfold so easy to carry around. I think people in a lot of countries were scared, still scared. I was just reading about Germany and the troubles they have had with terrorists living and planning activities there. Except for the economy, everything seems to be back pretty much to what it was pre 9/11. So, it is probably just about the right time for another attack. Scares me to even say that. We visited a Hopi Indian reservation on one of the mesa's in Az and we were told before we were allowed to enter than we were not to talk to them( unless they spoke to us) or look them in the eye, as it was considered rude. The women were beautiful as was the country, I bought some pottery and also beautiful carvings made from willow. We also went to a reservation near Taos and visited a school. I had hoped to return to study pottery but life sorta got in the way and made other decisions for me. Still, I have my books and love to read snipits of the folklore and traditons.
