I believe my daughters are also triggered from gut issues.

I keep her moving with magnesium. I am also working on liver function.

When I went to the GI doctor that was referred to by our PCP,

he said that it wasn't all that unusual to not go for days. In fact he

shared a story of someone that would not go for weeks. He said if she

wasn't uncomfortable not to worry. I asked him about the connection to

seizures, and he said he did not know of any. He asked me if my

neurologist bought in to my theory that there were triggers that

caused seizures (huh?).

He also is not a believer in gut/autism connections. Told me if I

could bring him some research he would be interested in reading it. I

would like to come up with a booklet that we could just give these

doctors to read, or a CD that would take them to link after link of

research and anecdotal evidence.

Once you start to treat his gi distress his pain will decrease. For my son, he started to sleep through the night once we were on the gi meds for awhile.I can certainly see the seizure/gi issue. Make sure you bring this up to the gi doc you are going to see. BTW is he on a special diet? For my son taking out casien was the first real gi improvement we saw before the scoping/meds route.

he is GFCFSF - has been for about 6 mos. now he was on SCD for 4 of

those months. and we took him off, which was a big mistake. we were

going to put him back on it the day after thanksgiving, but he

actually did it himself and quit eating grains on tuesday (i'm always

amazed at how in tune my little nonverbal 3 yr. old can be sometimes).

he's been GFCF for about 6 mos. now. taking him off of SCD has

allowed things to get worse, but gradually, so it kinda crept up on us.

today, the cycle is starting again - he hasn't pooped yet, his

seizures are creeping up and his stomach is bloated.

My son never had seizures- or so I thought. About 3 years into GFCF

he started freezing up and staring straight ahead every so often- just

enough to freak me out. This went on for about a month. Soon after we

switched to SCD and I have not seen it since. I think the gluten or

complex carbs can do this.

My daughter had gut issues and seizures. The gut issues were

confirmed with a pill cam and the seizures were both clinically

noticeable and evident in EEGs.

While these 2 issues are highly correlated, I strongly believe that

the root cause is an immune system dysfunction.

Basically, viruses cause the immune system to become dysregulated and

then attack the gut which becomes " leaky. " See interesting article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/children_shealth/3536753/Children-

saved-by-world-first-bone-marrow-transplants-at-British-hospitals.html

Meanwhile, many viruses migrate to the brain (especially the temporal

lobes) and thus cause seizures.

Once we heard about these facts, we tested our daughter and sure

enough her virus titers are off the charts!

Because of these issues, we are treating our daughter with anti-viral

treatments. We have only been doing this for a short while but there

appears to be positive results already.

i think for us it is not blood sugar levels causing seizures. we are

back on the cycle of him not pooping and seizures back up - his color

is off, dark circles under eyes, etc. he looks toxic.

i find it very disheartening that our neurologist (and apparently

others) completely blows us off when we mention this connection and

how it keeps repeating itself. we believe the gut-brain connection is

why our boy is not responsive to seizure meds but he thinks we are a

bunch of crack-pots. and yeah - heavy metals wouldn't have anything

to do with this either, even though our son has one of the heaviest

mercury burdens our DAN has ever seen.

to the person who had the GI who did not believe in the gut/autism

connection, i would recommend going to someone else. we are in the

middle of the intake process with the thoughtful house in austin

(www.thoughtfulhouse.org) to see dr. krigsman and i have very high

hopes that he will be able to help us. it is far from us and i'm not

sure how we're going to get the money, but we can't keep watching this

and it's time to go to an expert.

Definitely! The viruses do cause seizures. This is so evident in my son. I just can not get rid of the virus. We (Jack)have been on Valtrex for 8 years and the other day I ran out of Valtrex. I have just started Hulda 's parasite protocol and have been very excited because I figured this is the missing piece. I have been treating viruses, yeast and bacteria, but not parasites. Well the parasites must be carrying viruses. Jack has right sided weakness caused by the virus, but the other morning he could not walk on his left side. I new it was neurological, and was sure I did not mess him up for good. I went out and got some more Valtrex, with in a few hours he was walking on the foot again. Any time I take Jack off of Valtrex it affects his gait. Any thought or ideas would be appreciated.nne Re: anybody experience gut issues causing seizures?
