Guest guest
cerlery is commonly found in broths and bacons do you use any of those? the lettuce would also fall under broths same for carrots and broccoli (we found this 1 time threw our daughters test for a loop as well) pineapple is common in enzymes. look for bromaline on the label. do you do gummy bear vitamines as well as many of these things listed would be in those. what suppliments do you use. citrus fruits are common in vit C's as well Recovering from Autism is a marathonNOT a sprint, but FULLY possible!Read more about it on my BLOGs athttp://www.myspace.com/christelkinghttp://foggyrock.com/MyPage/recoveringwisheshttp://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677063169 Crazy thought? Hello,I have a crazy thought I want to share with everyone. My son has been gfcf for four years now. His gut is still the piece of the puzzle I can't solve. His last food panel came back with sensitivities to rice and potato as well as eggs, celery, lettuce, cucumber, carrot, broccoli, citrus fruits, pineapple, tomato and watermelon. Most of these items excluding rice, potato, eggs and tomato he has never eaten before. I know that most people would suggest the SCD but my kiddo is a high ammonia kid and high protein is not an option. So, here is my thought. Could it be possible to rotate in gluten with enzymes to replace all of the rice based food and still heal the gut? I am starting to think that the rice has become a huge problem for us and if we substitute gluten it might help his gut take a break from the rice. Am I crazy for even thinking this? I would love to hear from anyone with thoughts or advice (good or bad). Thanks,Dayna No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com Version: 8.0.176 / Virus Database: 270.9.11/1820 - Release Date: 11/29/2008 6:52 PM
Guest guest
gluten will cause the gut to leak more so I wouldn't recommend it, I would add in OTHER grains to make up for the rice, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, cococnut, teff, misquit, sweetpotatoe, wild rice, qunioa, bean flours ect and rotate them, it will allow for more healing Recovering from Autism is a marathonNOT a sprint, but FULLY possible!Read more about it on my BLOGs athttp://www.myspace.com/christelkinghttp://foggyrock.com/MyPage/recoveringwisheshttp://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677063169 Crazy thought? Guest guest
Dayna - I played around with taking Ty off the diet a few yrs ago (he had been on it since 18 mos. old and he was then 4.5 yrs old). It backfired - took a while, but over a 3 mos. period we saw cognitive decline and eventually the return of really bad stools. I feel your pain, even after years of gut intervention and 2.5 yrs of Yasko recommended gut treatment, we are still dealing with bacteria and malabsorption issues (though a recent food allergy panel didn't show too much come up). The gut problems were my main motivation for trying the Traditional Chinese Medicine that Rei has had so much luck with. Too soon to tell, we are only on day 9 of the tea, but you can follow my blog on our experience at http://tcmforautism.blogspot.com if you are interested. > > Hello, > > I have a crazy thought I want to share with everyone. Guest guest
, Thanks for the advice. In my heart I knew it would be crazy to add gluten back in but I wanted to hear what others had to say. I am very interested in Dr. Peng's herbal protocol and have been following the threads. I am very worried that my son will not drink it. He swallows pills like a champ but is very hesitant to try any liquids he is not familiar with. I am looking forward to following your journey. Guest guest
We've been GFCF and rice, corn, nut, egg, etc. free for over a year now. It's hard at first, but totally do-able! My son doesn't eat bread at all, because I simply haven't found a bread he CAN eat, and all the homemade loaves I've tried have failed due to all of his resrictions. But you know, he doesn't miss it. I make muffins, pancakes, cookies, etc. all from scratch with grains like sorghum, quinoa, amaranth, teff, tapioca, arrowroot, etc. I would be really hesitant about the gluten, espicailly if he seems to have a leaky gut (which is likely based on his food panel results). Do you use enzymes currently? Sheri > > Hello, > > I have a crazy thought I want to share with everyone. My son has been gfcf for four years > now. Guest guest
For 3 days during Thanksgiving my daughter ate foods that I would not normally give her or allow. I gave HUGE amounts of digestive enzymes BEFORE the meals and saw no difference in behaviors or anything like that. I am not sure on substituting gluten in particular..... ~ " Dayna Sable " wrote: > > Hello, > > I have a crazy thought I want to share with everyone. My son has been gfcf for four years > now. Guest guest
Dayna have you looked into Body Ecology diet? Have you tried grains like quinoa or millet? Also going grain free might be a good idea. You could do body ecology or scd in a way that works for your child. I don't think lots of meat is a good idea either. If I were to do SCD it would be w/o honey, fruits, or large amts of meat. I would use lots of vegetables and limit nuts too. I think there are other options before you add gluten back in. Also I believe that if the body is reacting to so many foods, this really just tells you that his body is reacting. Immune problems is what I see rather than the actual foods being problems. I think it wise to keep working on bringing immune function into balance. Blessings > > > > Hello, > > > > I have a crazy thought I want to share with everyone. Guest guest
Sheri it sounds like your child may benefit from a mostly grain free diet and if you do use quinoa, I'd soak it and rotate this every 4 days. I had to do all of this for an 18 month period, but now we have more flexibility. Sounds like your child may benefit from not having any foods everyday. He sounds very reactive at the moment to foods. My son was like this too. Very frustrating, but we got through it. Best to you > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > I have a crazy thought I want to share with everyone. My son > has > > been gfcf for four years > > > now. Guest guest
You can still do SCD without it being " high-protien " . As long as he is not intollerant of all fruits he can eat lots of those. My son is SCD and he eats alot of bananas and can drink watered down white grape juice which is full of natural sugars. He also has plenty of butternut squash which is high in carbs. Just do a little carb counting (the other way) and see what things you can do to replace the rice etc without resorting to gluten. I think you will undo a lot of hard work if you bring it back.
Guest guest
He might be a parasite kid. Check out Hulda 's parasite cleansing protocol. Guest guest
I think any diet that narrows itself down to a group like lots of fruit, or lots of protein, or lots of grain is a red flag. Anytime a child is narrowing and only a few things this is helpful. It helps guides you to what is going on. I believe as balanced as possible best. Lots of vegetables, with small amt soaked grains or small amt digestable protein with good fats best. Sour fruits on empty stomach. I wouldn't reintroduce gluten. If you are in the world of autism, my suggestion is to keep looking into advanced diets as opposed to going back to gluten. But I do respect your observation of realizing that he is getting a reaction to rice too. Overall it looks as if he would react to lots of things. SO I would rotate foods and go with gluten free grains. Keep bowels moving. I really learned a lot with body ecology diet. > > es but if you are doing SCD to kill yeast then doing all fruits is going to make the whole diet pointless > > Recovering from Autism is a marathon > NOT a sprint, but FULLY possible! > Read more about it on my BLOGs at > http://www.myspace.com/christelking > http://foggyrock.com/MyPage/recoveringwishes > http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677063169 > > Re: Crazy thought? > > > You can still do SCD without it being " high-protien " . Guest guest
I get a lot of diet and recipe tips from the GFCFKids Yahoo group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GFCFKids/ I've also done a lot of " experimenting " in my kitchen over the last year in order to come up with recipes that work for us. For egg, I usually use EnerG brand egg replacer - you can find this at most health food stores. It is GFCF and works quite well. I sometimes use a flax seed based egg replacer, but it doesn' always go well with everything. It's nice in some muffins though, and great for a source of omega-3.
