Guest guest
- Valeta asked for input on the following situation: > We are trying to find a fair way to handle > scheduling for holidays. Well, basically one person is allowed off on each shift for annual leave, and its on a first come , first serve basis. You also can only request 60 days in advance. The way some of you say you do it, starting in Januray, we would not be able to. We change shifts every 4 months, so people would not even know what shift they were on, and since we only allow 1 on annual each day, due to manpower, we wouldnt know who was on what shift that far in advance. Besides, there are just some people that dont care what holiday it is, they just want it off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In a message dated 5/11/2000 1:52:24 AM Eastern Daylight Time, @... writes: << I have made the decision unless there is an officer in the building with me, NO ONE is getting through that front door. >> That certainly is a tough call, but in the long run, I agree. You cant be of help to someone if something happens to you. Then the link to the help is cut off. I tell that to my trainees all the time in refernce to officers going in alone. They cant help anyone if something happens to them. And besides, you are not equipped to defend yourself. I can only wonder about being put in the position of making that decision. When our HQ was under construction, doors were left open alot and people would just wander in looking for someone, or thinking it was the jail. We complained alot and finally people started closing the doors. -------------------------------------------------------------- In a message dated 5/11/2000 10:31:57 AM Eastern Daylight Time, ahallmark@... writes: << Even an officer in the building is not enough protection for you. >> Back on this topic. At our Westside Precinct there is a picture on the inside of the rear door. Its a photo of an officer lying dead on the floor after being shot in the head point blank. What happened: he opened the back door when someone knocked and didnt check who it was. -------------------------------------------------------- In a message dated 5/11/2000 10:06:36 AM Eastern Daylight Time, rhondarowan@... writes: << BTW - I know of at least 4 supervisory level employees from two different agencies (mine included) who do " lurk " .
