Hi there. Does anyone use this? It says it's a great cell booster for the whole body and helps to protect from oxidative damage due to environmental stress.

>>Yes I use it for chelation, every 3 hours for 3 days and nights. I would not use it as a general supplement.

ALA is the primary chelator (many also use DMSA or DMPS in addition)

used in the Andy Cutler protocol. You may want to look into this to

learn how to use it correctly.

Hello,

I read somewhere that ALA should be use after DMSA. ALA is supposed to

help with getting rid of metals. Something about the redistribution of

metals in the body.

Could you please let us know how your DAN did chelation or how did you

do it. thank you

and others using this,

Have you noticed good gains with ALA? Any negative side effects?

TIA!

Its also a pretty good chelator and crosses the blood brain barrier.

If not dosed every 3 hours round the clock it can cause quite a

redistribution of metals. I would not use ala as a once a day supplement.

It has many great functions but it is not just an antioxidant

I use it for myself. I am not trying to chelate myself. I certainly

would follow Andy's protocol if using as a chelator for my ASD child.

Here is what I found online that seemed to indicate a good supplement

for the 'average joe'. Am I still missing something??

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)

What is Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)

Alpha Lipoic Acid is an antioxidant, and is widely used in prevention

of various diseases. Its main function is to increase production of

glutathione, which helps dissolve toxic substances in the liver. An

antioxidant helps neutralize free radicals in our bodies and protects

our cells from damage. A free radical is an unstable molecule that

tries to steal electrons from other molecules, thus causing damage.

Smoking, pollution, car exhaust, fried foods are some sources of free

radicals.

Alpha lipoic acid can be found in foods such as meats, and veggies

(ie. spinach). Alpha lipoic acid is also easily absorbed into the

blood stream, and it can also cross the blood brain barrier.

Alpha Lipoic Acid Benefits

Alpha Lipoic Acid has many benefits, and all types of people will

benefit from taking ALA. ALA will be even more beneficial for

individuals with some of the following conditions:

* Diabetes or higher than normal blood sugar levels

* Have high cholesterol levels

* Are affected by cataracts (in early stages)

* Cardiovascular problems such as hardening of arteries

There is a long list of benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid, some have even

gone as far to call it the " ideal antioxidant " . Below are some

benefits of taking alpha lipoic acid.

* Alpha lipoic acid helps make vitamin C and E work better

* ALA is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals

* It's easily absorbed either from food eaten or from supplements

* Alpha lipoic acid helps increase glutathione which helps with

detoxification

* It helps protect the lens and retina of your eyes from

degeneration, and also helps alleviate glaucoma

* Alpha lipoic acid is used to treat and detox the liver

Obviously, the 2 biggest benefits from supplementing Alpha lipoic acid

is its powerful antioxidant properties, and its ability to help

increase Glutathione levels which plays a big role in dissolving toxic

substances in the liver.

Alpha Lipoic Acid Side Effects

Alpha lipoic acid has few if any side effects. The recommended daily

dose is between 50mg to 100mg, and higher doses can cause nausea and

upset stomachs, and excessive doses can even lead to low blood sugar.

On the plus side, taking alpha lipoic acid can sometimes lead to a

mild and relaxing feeling, and lead to a better feel of well-being.

1) you should not take this if you have dental amalgams as it will

redistribute mercury. 2) it is usually used as part of a chelation

plan where it is taken frequently (dosed at the half life of about 3

hours) at low dosages to collect metals over several days and

steadily move them out of the body without dropping them. Most do a

3 day on 4 or even 11 day off protocol. Taking once daily is not

recommended for chelation. If you are sure you are not metal toxic

and you are taking it for another reason, I am not familiar with this

usage.

Yes, it is a good antioxidant, but it is also a chelator. Do you

have amalgam fillings? If yes, then I really wouldn't recommend

using ALA every day. Instead, I would look for an antioxidant that

can be safely used daily like CoQ10, vit C, vit E, etc.

The information I have is that ALA helps to

increase glutathione in the liver, and able

to help with oxidized cholesterol. Often used

in conjnction with other sulfur containing

supplements for heavy metal detoxification

when used as a part of the diet to maintain

healthy blood.

Are you using sulfur in conjuntion...? for

metal detox? I'll have to check into this

detoxification process further, any tips

where I should go to research it?

You can read Hall Cutler's " Amalgam Illness. " There is a

yahoo board of parents doing this method of chelation: Autism-

Mercury.

You can join the Autism/Mercury group and read the files. There are a

lot of files about this method of chelation. I am doing it now with my

3 year old and getting great gains. Just like anything there are ups

and downs. But this method is the safest and best thing I've done so far.

Lots of people can help you in that group.

I just got back from my appt. with our DAN and she concurred with most of you on

this site.

ALA does chelate and has the ability to carry heavy metals out of the body but

it also does cross the brain/blood barrier which can lead to redistribution of

the metals in the brain. She said that it is used in her practice on adults

only after the gut is completely healed (Level 2 Detox).

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Ali
