I use Thorne l-carnityl. It's in capsule form. I break the capsule in liquid. I've never noticed an odor. I did notice a fishy smell when we tried phosphatidylcholine (sp?) and the company told me it's normal. Sorry I can't be of more help w/the carnitine. Try calling the manufacturer.
