Hi everyone. Thank you for the great fundo information.

passed the PH probe test and will not be needing

the surgery!!

However, now we are in the process of determining if he

needs a trach. Obviously we are hoping this can be

avoided too...and there is a chance it will be...none

the less we are trying to prepare ourselves for this if

it comes to pass.

He has been on a vent for 2 1/2 weeks because he

contracted RSV while recovering from surgery. His

surgery was for choanal atresia repair and also to

insert a Lathum device into his mouth to repair his

cleft. There is speculation that the device could be

affecting his airway and contributing to the fact that

he has failed extubation twice. Next week they are

going to take the device out and give him another shot

at breathing on his own. If he fails again...he will be

trached.

Anyone with any trach advice? We are very concerned

about speech and also about how " short term " we can

expect it to be. As you can imagine...we are petrified

once again. The information on the fundo I received

from Casey and all of you helped so much to prepare us

in case he had to have it. I feel like I need to be

armed again...and find a way to belive that a trach

won't be that bad if that is what we have to do.

Thanks.
