Apple Cider Vinegar for Constipation

My 5 yr old son has always suffered from constipation, having bowel

movements every 2-4 days and it was always very difficult for him to

push, as he has to pass hard pellets first. We've tried many things,

but what we found most successful is giving apple cider vinegar every

day. Ever since the 3rd day on the vinegar, he has been having 1-2

bowel movements every day and no more hard pellets to pass.

We use Bragg's organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Two teaspoons

vinegar with two teaspoons honey in a cup of water first thing in the

morning and then in the afternoon when he gets back from school.

With the honey, it doesn't taste too bad, sort of like a vinegar

lemonade. I either offer it with a straw or use a syringe when he

resists, but it's not too bad. He's gotten used to it. Apple cider

vinegar has many other benefits, including making the stomach pH more

alkaline, helping with digestion and gut bacteria, relieving chronic

fatigue, etc. Now, I make a cup for everyone in the morning,

including my soon to be 3 yr old. He loves it and requests

his " honey water " . I just leave out the vinegar part! :)

We have not tried Miralax or Oxypowder. I always wanted to give

something natural. Prune juice worked well too, but I only gave it

on an as needed basis. One cup and 10-15 minutes, he will go. But

with the vinegar every day, he has become much more consistent.
