we have used an amino acid thing from kirkmans with good results, is he digesting fats and protines?? if not that can stunt things as well....taurine can help with that. you may also need to try the OTHER carnintine as well and or pancreatic enzymes

Son won't grow... please help!

Hi All,My son is 27 months and has not grown or gained weight since his 18month check-up.Here is a summary:- SCD diet since 19 months of age- Good appetite and eats what seems like a lot (lots of protein fatsand simple carbs)- Acetyl L-carnitine- CLO with Vit A and D- Multivitamin, Vit C, calcium, Vit D, Vit B2- Few rounds of Diflucan and Sporanox (might start Nystatin soon)- Had been on Valtrex for a few months- Biotin to help reduce yeast- Digestive enzymesHis yeast has flared up like crazy lately and he has a bad rash on hisbum and what looks like some jock itch on boy parts. I am desperateto help him grow. Lots of blood tests... growth hormone is ok, liveris ok, thyroid is ok, most everything is ok. His iron ferratin levelswere way low but hemoglobin is ok.We have started to give him neocate (amino acid based formula) forextra calories and nutrients. Not sure what else we can do. Nextstep is an endocrinologist. Any ideas???Thanks,

My son did not grow between 12 and 20 months. We used an elemental

protein formula and also supplemented with the amino acid precursors

to growth hormone: arginine, lysine and ornithine. I bought them in

a growth hormone formula from JoMar Labs. This helped a lot and he

started to grow again quickly. We also used branched chain amino

acids and that seemed to help putting on weight.

I'm interested in this. My son is growing very slowly and sounds alot

like 's.

Caryn, do you have a link I could research more about the amino acid

formulation?

Thanks,

Janet

This is the product I am using.

Arginine, lysine and ornithine, together are the precursors for growth

hormone. Keep in mind that lysine is also good for fighting viruses

and arginine is good for fighting bacteria. Ornithine is essential in

young children.

Tryptophan also stimulates the release of growth hormone, as does

Tyrosine. However, both tryptophan and tyrosine are precursors to

neurotransmitters and they should be supplemented under a controlled

situation to watch for changes in neurotransmitters. So don't try this

while you are doing anything else different or going anywhere special.

My son does excellent on tryptophan.

My son did this as well. We did a full GI work-up with Dr. Krigsman

and 3 months after starting the meds for his GI issues he grew 2 inches.

I would suspect malabsorbtion issues and it's great that he's on SCD.

Enzymes and probiotics are also key.

Janet,

Low cholesterol levels in the body can do this as well.

You might want to check this if you haven’t already.

Wow! exactly that happen to my son!!! I was so desperate. You are the

only advocate for your son, continue searching, that is what we are

doing...

In short:

Poor gain weight. From 1 years old 2 years old he gain 2 pounds

He had linear growth until he was 18 months. then he stopped growing

We did all the works, endoscopy, MRI, blood work, endocrinologist,

everything was fine, thyroid was fine, liver was fine, etc. No doctor

could give a medical explanation

After experimenting with his diet and supplements he had some linear

growth. Neocate did not work for us, he did not tolerate it.

Our son had good apetite eat a good amount of foods. Also went to

nutirionist.

I believe that for us it helped:

Vit C buffered from kirkman- 1000 to 2000 mg a day

B12 shots and B50 complex.

Probiotics and enzymes

Enzymes. I did different trials. they did miracles for my son.

But, at the begining did not work, now I mix it with the food, before

I was giving it to him just before the food or with liquid. With

enzyme it takes several weeks to improve bms and months to see the

improvements in weight, it takes consistency,

Which enzyme are you using? I have been playing a lot with enzymes,

now I am using a combination of candidase and virastop from

enzymedica.

Reflux. we put him on prevacid, I believe it helped him a lot. He

did not have any visible sing of reflux, in the endoscopy it came

back that he had mild inflammation of the stomach. This one of the

things that work for him.

3) We give a big amount of protein, meats, chicken and turkey every

three meals

4) He cannot eat by himself. we spoon everything into his mouth and

measure everything he eats

5) MB12 shots everyday. I know it was not going to get to him trough

his mouth. I think this was also essential for his improvement.

6) Allergies. you may have some food intolerance present or

allergies. check for them again.

Does he have GI issues? For us I believe it was a mix of food

allergies we did not know about (coconut, rice, corn) and GI issue

(reflux), he had GI issues, four or five bms a day. Even after we

control bms he had problems gaining weight

We are still struggling with his weight. He had some linear growth :)

however he is still skin and bones :(. We hope he continues to

grow...

Please write me and let me know how your child is doing and if you

find more ways to help him.

all the best,
