Guest guest
does it come and go?? has he been checked blood wise for strep? PANDAS comes to mind Recovering from Autism is a marathonNOT a sprint, but FULLY possible!Read more about it on my BLOGs athttp://www.myspace.com/christelkinghttp://foggyrock.com/MyPage/recoveringwisheshttp://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677063169 sweet nasal smell, tongue-in-nose still, hand stims Hi - My son is post-surgery for adenoids/tonsils removal but before that he had sweet smelling nasal discharge and tongue constantly going into the nose. It is beyond annoying to watch him do this at this point. I noticed an even stronger smelling sweet smell coming from his nose -- would anyone wanna bet this is yeast? But it also seems like a OCD-type compulsion and he takes his tongue with hand and puts into into the nose -- usually both sides. He's being treated for the suspected bacteria from his lab tests with Septra and I was hoping this would help with both the tongue/nose compulsion along with the hand stims that he does when attempting to talk, or just out of the blue. He's also on anti-vitral and anti-fungals. What really seem to quiet this stuff some (maybe I am dreaming it) was OoO but backing off it now because he's healing from surgery. Any suggestions to help with these stims altho adding anything else at this point feels crazy. Maybe just needed to vent about the compulsions/stimming.Also, really is it yeast in his nose still coming out????????????Steph T. http://www.teach-speak.blogspot.com/ No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com Version: 8.0.176 / Virus Database: 270.9.16/1843 - Release Date: 12/11/2008 8:36 AM
Guest guest
yes he was checked - those two blood tests for PANDAS were " very normal " says the doctor and I think we timed it right because it wasn't right after the last flare but weeks later when we finally tested. ? The tongue thing could be OCD and he started lining things up (he's very OCD about doors since the summer) - we could've maybe woken up the strep with all the anti-virals and taking out the tonsils, etc. The hand stims are him just trying to talk and it comes out as squeals (he is somewhat verbal) and the hands just shake in front of him with him looking peripherally or at the hands... I think this all started after going off Prozac last fall-- he is doing it in his Christmas pic last year. (there's a 2 min video on my blog of him doing it) The nose stuff (the guk part) I don't think is strep related but started when we started anti-fungals and is was oozing sweet stuff after surgery... he's snoring loud after the adenoids are out which is supposed to help with the stuffed noses and any snoring. I am guessing it could be blood and guk but I just haven't heard others talk about the yeast coming outta the nose - just the butt. Guest guest
We've been battling the sweet stench over the last month and a half as well. For our son, it was coming from his nose and mouth and also his bowel (gas and stool). It started when we had to discontinue probiotics, antibacterials, antifungals, etc. prior to being scoped. I'm really thinking it's bacterial. And funny you should mention that OoO might be helping, because my son's sweet/rotten smell has gone down a lot since starting OoO here too. Since it's primarily his nose (and likely then his sinuses) perhaps some sort of nasal spray might help? Do you have a DAN that might prescribe a compounded antifungal/antibacterial nasal spray? Our DAN prescribed an amphotericin B antifungal spray for us in the past, and we had it specially compounded. Or maybe a sinus flush with a netipot? Now whether your child would actually let you do that or not is another question...
