Guest guest
Lifekind sells "eco- /green-mattresses" at a pretty high cost. We just bought a latex mattress over the internet and love it! No off-gassing and no flame retardants. It was delivered via UPS and we had to put the pieces together (took a while with some muscle!) We bought ours through http://www.mattresses.net/--- Subject: 'safe' new mattress? To: mb12 valtrex Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 3:17 AM Hi all,I want to buy my son a new twin size mattress. Guest guest
I'm not the Amy you wrote to but my understanding is that US law requires flame retardents for mattresses and if you want chemical-free you have to have the prescription. Guest guest
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but you can by a mattress topper instead of a whole mattress. It's cheaper and you simply place it on top of your existing mattress. We noticed that Sears is actually started to carry organic topper and duvets and toys r us are also starting to carry organic bedding. car

Guest guest
I read on another parent discussion group that Select Comfort makes mattresses without the chemicals, but I haven't contacted them directly. But can it be made with all certified organic fibres, and then dipped in fire retardants? I do see that many sites specify that their organic toppers are not treated, but if it doesn't specify on the label, should we assume that it has been treated? > > Not sure if anyone mentioned this but you can by a mattress topper > instead of a whole mattress. Guest guest
Just because it says it’s organic doesn’t necessarily mean that hasn’t been treated with flame retardants. Guest guest
I've been told to be careful with wool due to arsenic. First, sheep feed laced with arsenic leads to wool that has arsenic. Second, apparently arsenic is an organic compound and can qualify for the organic label. So I was advised to skip it. But I believe that you can do your homework and find out what area the sheep were from and what they were fed and how the wool is processed and what was used for bugs on the sheep/wool etc etc. Subject: Re: 'safe' new mattress? To: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, December 18, 2008, 10:56 AM We buy from Natura; their products are made from wool which is natural fire retardant, and it's sold at SEARS.It's made in Canada.>> Just because it says it's organic doesn't necessarily mean that hasn't been> treated with flame retardants.>
