Guest guest
Yes Chuck, there are now 3 wildland fires raging in Colorado. The first started near Estes Park, where Rocky Mountain national park is located. It is 6000 acres so far burned, numerous homes destroyed. The newest is just south of Boulder, so far 4 houses destroyed. The 3rd, and the biggest started in Park County and quickly moved into Jefferson County. It's about 40 miles southwest of downtown Denver. The smoke from the fire is blowing east and is covering Denver and surrounding suburbs. I've heard up to 50 homes lost. So once again the Jefferson County sheriffs office dispatch center is hopping. Sis has been pulling 18 hour shifts as they dispatch for the majority of the mountain fire departments as well as being the county PSAP. Where my house is located, the slurry bombers fly overhead going to the county airport to fill up on slurry and gas. I have an awesome view of the smoke. Today, due to a cold front that moved in last night, the smoke is not billowing up but is lying low. The news just announced that this fire is 5 percent contained. Kathy << I just seen a segment on " The Today Show " about some bush fires in Colorado. Did I hear right, that they were near Denver? I talked to Kathy Cline on the phone this morning and apparently it is close enough that it involves 's agency to some extent. CNN said a little while ago that originally thought 40 homes were destroyed, but they are now thinking that there might be less.. Flames are still going strong and I dont know what their prospect is for rain. Here in GA, we are under water restrictions. One city has totally banned outdoor or frivilous watering. All other metro counties have no watering from 10AM to 10PM. We are now under odd/even days also.. The midwest is getting rain, but I dont know where in relation to the fires. Guest guest
I too live in the Denver area....smoke and haze...heard there is now a third fire not far from Boulder. I dont have much info on this one since I just got off work and we dont have a tv in our comm center. I do know they say the big one is now 5% contained. Tomorrow is suppose to be very hot and very windy..not good for firefighting. Hope things improve with the cooler weather expected for friday and satuday..
