Guest guest
, All Hepatologists are Gastroenterologists. However, not all Gastroenterologists are Hepatologists. A Hepatologist is a GI doctor who has a Fellowship in Hepatology. I understand there aren't that many around. Mine is the only one in Nevada, I've been told. Example: My doctor works with a group of GI specialists. One day I had to see his associate but he wouldn't prescribe medication until he could talk to my doctor, stating that " I'm not a Hepatologist " and explaining that doesn't feel qualified to deal with AIH because of that. If you're unsure about a doctor you're seeing, ask where he or she got his or her Hepatology Fellowship. Take care, Geri
Guest guest
i would love to know about finding a pediatric hepatologist also because all the docs we have seen for my 10 year old with AIH are GI specialists, not hepatologists. we are in central florida and see the GI group at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Guest guest
Geri, Thank you for your response. Now it makes sense. I called the major hospital near here. When I asked for a hepatologist, they said there were none that were just hepatologists. Now i know how to proceed. Wish I knew who is good and if they take medicaid. Guest guest
Geri, Supposidly, the target victim for AIH is an adolescent teenage girl. Cason was 3 years old and a male when they diagnosed him. Took them 5 months of testing to finally come up with it. I'm not surprised that there are few pediatric hepatologists around. I will definetly do that search and hopefully come up with more information. Thanks again,

Guest guest
, I saw something on TV recently about a child who had a liver transplant and until then I didn't realize there is such thing as a Pediatric Hepatologist. One possible way of locating such specialist would be to go to the ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialists (?) website, where they list all of the Board certified doctors in the U.S. They have a locater service. I don't know their URL but a web search can help you find them. Take care, Geri

Guest guest
, It's frightening to think that there could be many children and others out there who haven't been correctly diagnosed and thus properly treated for AIH. What a shock it must have been to you to find out that your little boy had this disease. On the plus side, AIH can very often be treated or at least put on hold vs. other liver diseases that aren't so responsive. Your present doctor(s) must have had a bit on the ball to manage a diagnosis. A Hepatologist would be great, but if you think that he's already getting adequate care, you should be safe. Still, a confirming opinion or a Hepatologist to oversee the meds and evaluate the level of his condition could be very helpful. What about calling the University of Miami med school and asking them if they have a Pediatric Hepatologist on staff, or if they can refer you to one? I've heard that they have an excellent Hepatology and liver disease department. Several people who post here live in Florida, so they might be able to tell you if I'm suggesting the right place. Sorry that the ABMS didn't yield any names. I didn't know there was such animal as a Hepatologist and probably never would have known if my original GI doctor hadn't been wise enough to admit that he didn't feel qualified to treat my AIH. But, I'm certain that there must be GI doctors who aren't specifically Hepatologists, but who still know a lot about liver disease and hopefully AIH. Hope you can get the information you need. Perhaps someone else will come up with some helpful suggestions - I hope so! Take care, Geri

Guest guest
Cherie, I think Patty may have posted this, but it's a link for a Dr. Fuhrman in Flemington, NJ, which is probably about an hour from where you live (maybe an hour and a half). I've been thinking of going to see him as well. I'm not sure what he charges per visit - I don't think he participates in my plan. New Jersey doesn't license naturopath's, either, but Dr. Fuhrman is an MD, so maybe he participates in your plan. http://www.drfuhrman.com Sis --- In , " Cherie " <cheriesut@y...> wrote: > > Hi - I need to find a doctor, but don't know what to do. Guest guest
Is the woman Kane? Is it the Haverford Wellness Center in Havertown? One of our members, Anita, took her son to see Dr. Kane there in Pennsylvania. She lives here in Las Vegas, and I had intended to hook up with her before the holidays to see how they fared with the Kane protocol. From what I had heard, he had seen some significant improvements. Cherie, it is so hard to know how well you will do by going totally drug free and relying on your body to swing back to its own state of health. Some women can do that and others suffer very much for trying. I wish I knew what to tell you that would work, but my feeling is that the more toxic you are, the less you put into your body. I think our bodies want to get back to health, but sometimes we throw so much at it that it just gums up all the delicate workings. The only thing I know that worked for me was to trust in God to show me the path I should take. I had total peace about those things I tried. If you feel nervous or uncomfortable about something, it probably won't work for you (although of course, there are times when we have alot of skepticism only to be pleasantly suprised!) But overall, I think we need to have alot of faith in what we are doing. There is something about trusting in God, rather than man for answers that gives me a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. And, it was the only thing that worked for me. I'll be praying for you! Patty --- In , " Cherie " <cheriesut@y...> wrote: > > Hi - I need to find a doctor, but don't know what to do. Guest guest
Cherie, Have you tried (and I know this will sound gross, but it works) coffee enemas? They are reputed to be a great reliever of pain. If you want more info, please let me know. I have tons of experience with them, and can give you supportive data if that is what you need. When my naturopathic doctor first suggested coffee enemas to me (and this was within my first two visits!), I thought he was a freaking weirdo! I told him, " Thanks but no thanks! " I got into juicing instead. But then I read about the Juiceman, Jay Kordich, who healed his cancer using the Gerson therapy, and when I did more research into that, I was amazed! Coffee enemas are vital to healing from cancer! So, anyway, let me know if you want more info....I believe Kacey Long told me that coffee enemas helped with her pain greatly! Guest guest
Rogene - actually no I haven't tried everything you listed. I guess I should before I spend a fortune on doctors. I have tried Epsom salt baths - which are comforting. I have not tried fasting or gone completely sugar free. Maybe I could try the two could go hand in hand. I am desperate to try something. Do I just drink water and green tea? and for how long should I try this. I don't know if I have the will to go without food. Thanks > > Cherie, > > Kenda's ND will work with you by phone. Guest guest
Cherie, You are in a cycle of pain, disease and medications. You are going to need to detox in order to clear up the diseases that are causing pain, necessitating medications. You can start by changing to an organic diet, eliminating junk and processed foods and drinking lots of pure water. It seems to me that you really do need the assistance of an ND that can steer you towards supplements geared toward your particular needs. I know I couldn't have healed myself without the assistance of Dr. Leu. I had way too many problems to know where to start. Even now that I am very healthy, I still need his help in staying that way. I gave you Dr. Leu's contact information in a previous email. You can contact him if you desire, or take the advice of someone else here but I would do something to get on the right track. The sooner you commit to a treatment plan, the sooner you will begin to feel better. Kenda > Hi - I need to find a doctor, but don't know what to do. Guest guest
Cherie, Dr. Fuhrman is an expert on fasting, and would probably know what would work for you regarding the whole detoxing and healing aspect of it. Since he has done fasts himself and has helped many people attain healing, it might be worth a consult with him, just to see what he thinks. Since he is an MD as well, it might even be covered by your insurance! I know what Kenda is saying....all I know is that fasting was one of the first things that my naturopath had me do, and after I moved on to other therapies to see if they could help, (I admit that fasting isn't very fun), I saw no progress for months and hit a plateau that made me feel like I was failing and staying sick, sick, sick. It wasn't until I picked up on total water fasting again that I saw a kick start in my healing again and I was able to move on to greater and greater health recovery. Just my experience! That's really all I've got! If you do decide to go on a fast without consulting Dr. Fuhrman first, I would suggest at the least reading his book first so you have a greater understanding of the whole process. It is very important that a fast be done correctly! Guest guest
Kenda - I agree, I do need to get onto a treatment plan - quickly. I would like to find a doc that I can actually see, but would also be willing to use Dr. Leu by phone. I must have missed the actual e- mail with his contact info, I'm sorry. Sis, I checked into Dr. Fuhrman's website, and he looks great, so I called. They want $380 for an hour consultation, which is just too much for me. Patty, I am going to look into the Havertown Wellness Center - that would be close by. I'll let you know what I find out. It is just so hard to think straight right now to make decisions and move on things. Thanks - and hugs, Cherie --- In , Kenda Skaggs <skaggs@c...> wrote: > > Cherie, > > You are in a cycle of pain, disease and medications. Guest guest
Kenda - I have eliminated processed foods and use organic everything. I am still eating a small amount of organic sugar. Sometimes I feel like there's just nothing to eat - I have eliminated almost everything. I am going to try not taking any pain meds or benadryl, and see what happens. --- In , Kenda Skaggs <skaggs@c...> wrote: > > Cherie, > > Simply cleaning up your diet and eliminating sugar will free your body of > additional toxins you put into it. Guest guest
Cherie - Yikes, I was afraid he'd be expensive, since he's written a book and is involved with the media alot. I can't swing that, either! Kenda, thanks for the info on Dr. Leu. I'm going to contact him as well. Sis > >> > >> Cherie, > >> > >> You are in a cycle of pain, disease and medications.
