Guest guest
With PCOS unovulatory cycles happen a lot..because ovulation doesn't happen, your body doesn't produce enough P...Because P is emitted by corpus luteum after ovulation. So yeh, i think supplementing with P during the luteal phase is a good idea, and may be trying spiro? With PCOS higher androgens reduce SHBG which is why your body produces a lot of estrogens *mostly estrone though, not estradiol*...because of that ovulation doesn't happen...estradiol is produced by maturing follicles...since with non-ovulatory cycles a follicle never really matures into an egg it produces very little estradiol...and that's how cysts are creating...Spiro might help with androgens *and bind to some of E receptorst as well*, which will make your SHBG go higher, which should make your body produce more estradiol which will cause more ovulatory cycles...and supplementing with P with reduce the symptoms of estrogen dominance :)Lori Linek wrote: Let me preface this by acknowledging that you are NOT medical professionals and you can only give me your opinions based on your own experiences, yada yada yada... :-) Ok, this is what's going on with me. To recap a brief history - I have PCOS, I am 37, I am sort of still menstruating (it's irregular), and I have chronic, debilitating PMS. I did Wylie for about 2 months till I totally OD'd on E and then I went off everything cold turkey to try to detox. That was about 10 months ago or so. While I was on Wylie, I loved the P phase - didn't feel so hot on the E phase. I had regular cycles and minimal PMS. After going off, my PMS came back with a vengeance and my cycles lengthened to anywhere from 30 to 50 days. I recently did a day 12 saliva test - results came back with E too high (6.2 with a reference range of 1-5) and P was mid-range normal. It wasn't what I expected - I thought it would be the reverse - P too high in relation to E. Anyway...... now what?? The PMS is killling me. I can't function; I have to take time from work because of the cramping - it's total hell. Do I need to add P in the luteal phase and try to reduce my natural E? BTW, I am also very hypothyroid but am finally feeling well on Nature-throid, 3 grains/day. Whatever wisdom you can share would be helpful. I am too sick and tired to go to another doc because they don't help me - they just want to throw birth control pills at me which just makes my situation worse. Thanks much! ~Lori #define QUESTION ((bb) || !(bb)) - Shakespeare
Guest guest
Thank you for your quick reply! I should have mentioned, I do take metformin which reduces my androgen level significantly and helps to even out my cycles. I do not have cystic ovaries (confirmed by ultrasound) but I do have off the chart insulin resistance and the accompanying metabolic issues. The tests I have had for E were specifically for estradiol and were high. I have not specifically had estrone tested. What else can I do to bind excess estrogen and raise my P level at the same time? Since I don't have a doc who will prescribe natural P anymore, I was going to try to use herbs like dong quai, etc to help support P levels. ~Lori Re: Need some opinions, please... Guest guest
well, i'd definitely try to add P...as for E, i guess soy isoflavons would help, as these bind to estrogen receptorsLori Linek wrote: Thank you for your quick reply!
