when you are seeing the regression are you also seeing OCD things appear. if so It does sounds like he is a PANDAS kid,.. I will post again the PANDAS signs in a seperate post for everyone again, as it's always good to have a refresher. I think in your case I WOULD agree to a round of antibiotics and then MEGA probiotics after. what kind are you doing now, i would encourage detox support by klaire labs AND DO SEVERAL of them each night following the antibiotic round. watery stools may also mean yeast and is being followed by yeast feeders OR an another or new iGG issues as well,

Bacteria, bacteria, bacteria!!

I am a little lost and am looking for words of wisdom. My 4 year old tested positive for strep and enterococcus, prevotella and bifidobacterium overgrowth and undergrowth of lactobicillus. We have been GFCF, soy free for a while now. Done allergy testing too -no almonds, peas, egg whites, very careful with the diet. He is extremely low in zinc and have been supplementing with this, an array of B vitamins, selenium, l glutamine, magnesium, folate, vit c and e, using enzymes etc. Rotating probiotics gallore. Our real prob is bacteria in the gut I think anyway. He is as good as gold then once every 6 weeks or so he gets a reddish colour underneath his eye and BAM! he becomes another boy - non-sensical speech, moody, aggressive, non-compliant. I think this is strep but not sure. His BM's tend to be a little watery at these times but no other physical symptoms are apparent. My dillema is this. My DAN! wants him on antibiotics again because all of the natural stuff - OLE, Uva Ursi, colloidal Silver etc does not seem to be working. We have done this for about a year. I am reluctant to try antibiotics again. Last time, he was a different kid on antibiotics - sweet as pie but I cannot continue this forever can I? Would it not just return as it has in the past? What have others done to treat bacteria? Why does it keep returning? And is this what people mean by PANDAS - can strep appear just in the gut and not in the throat. If ur still reading, thankyou soooooooooooo much. This roller coaster ride is getting to be a little too much for me of late, it's nice to have companions on the journey.

Here is a little bit of a different perspective. Many parents are

putting thier kids on anti-biotics for a month to do a provoked

Igenex lyme test. Also related to lyme, strep, and bacteria in

general, lots of discussion about biofilm. Consider biofilm

protocol. But many kids have too severe of die-off and have to stop

so you'll need a practioners help probably.

Thanks your your prompt replies girls - as usual all very

informative.

Caryn, can I ask, how long do you keep him an the antibiotics and do

you try other treatments to keep the bacteria at bay - natural

supplements? What do you do when has finished his course of

antibiotics.

The probiotics I have him on probably aren't heard of by you guys in

the states, we seem to be a little behind! - at the moment SB

Floractiv, Muliflora, Lactobac, Ultra Flora - but I rotate.

He has some of the PANDAS symptoms - severe moodiness and anxiety,

extreme hyperactivity, especially when he is nervous but very little

sep. anxiety, clinginess or OCD - still a PANDAS kid or just severe

bacteria issues?

I think I will put him on antibiotics - no choice really but what to

do next? Other than back to all the natural stuff I am a little

stumped?

Question - large amounts of coconut oil tend to make his symptims

worse - why do you think this is?

Thanks again!!!

OoO (oil of oregano) has been good for my kids. And S. boulardii was

a HUGE help for my daughter. What probiotics do you use, and how

much (CFUs)?

One more thing - sorry - no strep strains in these probiotics but I

have used ones with strep b4. Could this be the problem in the

recurring bacteria do you think?

i am so sorry your guy is going through this. i have no words of

advice, but can offer a hug. my guy is on vancomycin right now and

will be doing at least another month of it. i know of a few kids in

my area who have been on vancomycin long term and they regress when

they go off. it's so hard.

a big part of my guy's problems stem from the overuse of antibiotics

in his first two years of life and the irony is not lost on me that we

have to treat that with antibiotics.

yes gamma was tied into us using strep lines in our probiotics, when we FINALLY went to one WITHOUT it disappeared. we have seen patterns of this happening with PANDAS kids and adults as well. in fact we now see that as one of the red flags to BEING a PANDAS kid to gamma strep showing up off balence on stool tests

I just wrote to Dr. Goldberg, because i use to cook with coconut oil, and he recomends to suspend coconut oil completely (alergies).Subject: Re: Bacteria, bacteria, bacteria!!To: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, December 18, 2008, 11:41 PM

Re: Problem with coconut oil... Some kids have trouble digesting fats.

Not sure how that would present itself, but hopefully someone can jump

in and expand on this.

Another take on the coconut oil is that it could be causing die-off.

Coconut oil is antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral. This is a

link to the website that goes with the book I read, The Coconut Oil

Miracle. http://www.coconut-connections.com/healthiest_oil.htm

Yes,thankyou I did think that die off was a possibility as his

behaviour is off the planet. He is not allergic or sensitive to it

at all. I don't think it's doing him harm - from everything I know

about it, it's meant to be a really good product so I'm reluctant to

stop using it.

Hi Caryn, Would you name the antibiotics and how long was your son

on each? What was the reason for switching?

Thanks,

Sid
