Guest guest
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I have no way of knowing if the study contributed to your daughter's Autism. However, I will say that it probably didn't help. It's likely that there were other contributing factors. It is usually around 18 months that most kids seem to experience regression....close to the time that they had their next round of immunizations (MMR and Dtap are considered the worst). I would say that Valtrex is known to cause the yeast to increase. Typically, if kids doing biomedical take Valtrex to deal with their viral issues, they usually do so in conjunction with antifungal medicatoins such as Difulcan. Nystatin will help with yeast in the gut, but Diflucan and Sporanox help with yeast systematically (throughout the body). It is important not to feed the yeast, so a diet has to be very low in sugar. That means no refined sugar at all. I don't think that would be bad for anyone. Good that you're working with a DAN doctor. I wish you all the best. I also suggest that you don't blame yourself. I think just about everyone here has one time or another felt guilt for their child's Autism. I know I always wish that I didn't allow them to give so many shots at one time, or that I shouldn't have given my son flu shots (I was urged to do so due to his asthma, which made him " high risk " for pnemonia). Should have, could have, etc. won't get you where you need to be. Please focus your efforts on helping your daughter by finding the best diet for her. Keep reading on the groups and read the various books on the subject. Over time, you will find what works best for your child. They are all different. Sounds like yeast is a huge deal for her. You can look into gfcf, or SCD or The Body Ecology Diet. Irene p.s. sorry this is so choppy. I have 3 boys here and it's hard to write well with them around! LOL! Guest guest
Valtrex is known to kick up Yeast. It was the only response we got to Valtrex. Hello. I have a 6 year old daughter with autism. She typically developed normally up until after 14-18 months. When I was pregnant with my daughter I participated in a study to consume valtrex through the 2nd and third trimester. My daughter came out looking healthy but cried constantly. She also got thrush when she was about a month or two old. I remember she had some vaginal discharge when she was a few days old as well. My daughter has yeast overgrowth in her gut. Her DAN! dr. wants to treat with nystatin and supplements. She is also very self injurous. She has kicked a hole in the bedroom wall and bites herself. She bangs her head into the walls and is nonverbal. I also am attempting scd diet. My daughter looks malnourished all the time and is under weight. I have always wondered if this study I did while I was pregnant contributed to her autism. I know I was not the only one in the hospital on this study because they would give me the medicine along with money in a dark brown bag. I remember looking around the room and seeing other women with these bags. Well hopefully someone knows.
Guest guest
I think all of us ASD Moms look back to our pregnancy and wonder what we did to cause this. It's not your fault. I had a flu shot when I was just a few weeks pregnant. Didn't yet know I was pregnant. I've always blamed my son's autism on this. Guest guest
I agree, it's not your fault. > the 2nd and third trimester. My daughter came out looking healthy > but cried constantly. ===>Ours was like this, can often be attributed to imbalanced dopamine/serotonin issues right off the bat, which is often attributed to heavy metal toxicity, from birth. Guest guest
We are going hard chamber hyperbaric oxygen therapy for my son. When we started this set of 40 hours, he banged his head on the wall after the therapy. We know from his labs that he has high yeast and clostridia, and feel this was a die-off effect. There are some great suggestions at the Autism Research Institute web site about how to identify the cause and treatments for SBI http://www.autismwebsite.com/aRI/newsletter/sib.htm --penumbra > DAN! dr. wants to treat with nystatin and supplements. Guest guest
my daughter was very healthy at birth. apgar 9/9. 8.4 lbs. i did everything right during pregnancy - ate well, took excellent care of myself, etc. She is now 4 and was diagnosed with autism around age 2. if i look back the signs were there right from the beginning. delayed tracking. wasn't meeting milestones. i too questioned if i had done something wrong. you need to stop beating yourself up about participating in the study. who knows - maybe things would have been worse if you hadn't taken the valtrex - just a thought. maybe autism is caused by some crazy virus no one has pinpointed and the valtrex during pregnancy helped your situation. don't forget - there are a lot of women who are exposed to A LOT of things during pregancy who end up having healthy normal kids: personally, i know of women who have had: a serious flu took paxil thruout pregnancy severe bleeding requiring bedrest for 7 months cyst on the baby's brain and how bout all those women who drank heavily, smoked, did major drugs - who end up having normal kids? that kills me. the stories are endless. no one really knows what the underlying cause is. it seems there are many causes that result in what people are labeling " autism. " please give yourself a break! many believe that the cause is genetic in which case there would have been nothing you could have done anyway. do your best to let it go. > > Subject: Re: Re: Did the study I did while pregnant contribute to my daughter's autism? > To: mb12 valtrex > Date: Friday, December 19, 2008, 3:23 AMh > I agree, it's not your fault. > > > the 2nd and third trimester.
