Guest guest
thanks.... I came upon a website for licorice last night....the Japanese find it to be very helpful for digestive, liver type problems (among other ailments)...but some research sats it actually aggrivates some types of liver disorders....so, it really seemed to bother Mike's stomach after taking that milk thistle with it in it....every once in awhile we branch off and try something new, if it doesn't agree, we drop it from our 'list'.... have a good one, Patti >From: Iszat@... >Reply-To: >To: >Subject: Re: Licorice >Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 10:56:22 EDT > >Patti - deglyzhirinized (spelling?) licorice does not raise blood pressure >the product is known as DGL and is manufactured by a number of companies _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
Hi Val and EveryOne, When I went to see the Naturopath she told me that Licorice would help me to deal with adrenal insufficiency.....I never really liked Licorice but I've gotten used to it, I bought powdered licorice and add it to my morning tea, and since it keeps Cortisol from being destroyed in the body it makes whatever Cortisol you have last longer. I wondered if licorice might help you to feel better in the afternoons Val. I've decided to go by how I feel and since I feel better on Isocort than HC for the time being I am going to use mostly 8 Isocort and use HC as needed. I am also taking Nutricology Adrenal Cortex and it doesn't upset my stomach...hurray! I have discovered that I feel best taking three grains of Armour right away in the morning and I am currently taking two more spread out in the day and evening and one right before bed. If I feel hyper as it builds up over the next week or so, I will cut back a bit on the Armour. Once I get the Armour settled for a few weeks, I will try 2.5mg of Cortisol four times a day again and see if it works better than the Isocort, if not I will continue with the plan to use mostly Isocort and have the HC on hand as needed. BTW the first day I had a lot more exercise than I am used to, climbing up and down hills, I felt lousy, really bad, didn't have any food along either which made it much worse. Since then, however, I have taken two extensive walks, (for me at least) and I feel so much better and stronger. I also remembered to take food along,- a picnic:-)) I don't know for sure why but I think it may be worth it to push the walking exercise a bit more than is comfortable and rest the next day and then continue to walk almost every day. The first two days were not so good a day to walk and a day to recover, but things have gotten a lot better since.. we do need some exercise... If you are like me you feel like you barely have what it takes to do what has to be done and certainly no energy left for exercise. I can hear you yelling at me right now:-)) " You've got to be kidding!!! " or words to that effect:-)) However, some exercise is really important to get more Oxygen into your body and keep the muscles toned etc. Try it, after awhile you might like it:-))It feels good to have strong legs again and I can feel the strength coming back into my whole body. I think the walking is helping a lot. BTW I also added Concentrace liquid minerals and a tiny amount of Logol's Iodine to my diet in recent weeks. Not sure what is helping but something sure is... Guest guest
I have a problem with Licorice.. Lack of control. What if I only need more cortisol in the mornings? Then I will start having sleep problems. I just prefer to control the cortisol coming and going and I have had some serious high blood pressure which Licorice is known to cause problems with. I just dont think it is for me. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I don't recommend licorice because it is dangerous. I tried it and my bp went out of control, felt no benefit. I figured out what dose I could take and bp be ok, but I still didn't feel benefit. I think licorice is a poor choice since it raises cortisol by shutting down cortisol receptors. Guest guest
Licorice blew my BP through the roof and gave me monster headaches. I get baby headaches now that I never got before. Took Atenolol to bring my BP down...My TCM Docs are very cautious to mitigate the effects of licorice in an herbal Rx. I wish I had been as careful on my own. ....
