Hi Sis,

Actually exercise knocks the immune system down, because the body has to

heal following exercise. It is after the body heals from exercise that the

immune system is actually stronger. For someone catching viruses very

easily, exercise probably isn't a good thing, until they get their immune

system is stronger. My first ND had a rule that anytime you felt weak or

like something was coming on, not to exercise at all.

Sis . . . You MUST keep moving . . . exercise, as in

aerobics, isn't what I'm talking about. . .

Stretching, walking and staying in motion is

important. Even if it hurts. And, if you haven't been

active, it probably will.

With Fibromyalgia, the less you move, the tighter the

membrane covering your muscle becomes, the more pain

you have - so the less you move. FM can become totally

disabling!

Tired is OK . . . In fact being tired from being

active is a very healthy tired. Your stamina will

build as you continue " exercising " . Don't be afraid of

a little discomfort or fatigue.

One of our currently inactive members has gone from

being unable to do anything (five minutes of walking

was out of the question) to working out strenously 45

minutes daily with weights and the treadmill. She

continues to feel better all the time.

Hugs,

Rogene

Nah, it just means you need to get your immune system functioning better.

Hang in there, it will happen.

I'm sure Dr. Leu can help you figure out where you are. You could be tiring

because you are out of shape and need to walk more. Do you get sick often

and easily? Anytime you start a new exercise routine, you are going to

fatigue more easily.

My first ND was against stressing my body because I was not healthy at the

time. Light stretching, gentle yoga and walking was ok. I am healthy now

and work out strong, three time a week and do yoga but still take it easy if

I am not feeling well. I hate being sick and take very good care of myself

to prevent it. I am very in tune to my body and listen to it. If I feel

weak or tired, I rest, I never push it.

I agree, as long as her immune function is well. If it isn't, tiring

herself could be setting herself up for more illness. Bodies are meant to

move. You need to listen to your body, it will tell you if you are wiped

out after exercise or just fatigued. Fatigued is a good thing.

It sounds like your core strength is very weak. Why don't you get one of

those large exercise balls, they sell them at Wild Oats and other health

food stores. I've even seen them at Target. Some come with a video with

exercises on them. My trainer has me doing a lot of work with them at the

gym. They really are great and you can exercise as strong or light as you

want. As you get stronger, you can even do different exercises with weights

on them if you want. There really is no end to what you can do with them.

You can even stretch with them.

If you feel good doing light exercise, that's great! Do what you are

comfortable with and gradually increase your distance and pace. There is no

need to push yourself excessively, you aren't running a marathon. :) Just

getting out and moving is a great improvement over where you were just a few

weeks ago.

Hi Sis,

I always thought I was fragile too, because of my small size. I have

learned that small people can be really strong too! It took training with a

personal trainer for me to gain strength because like you, I always hurt

myself.

Good luck with your walking, I think it will really help you. Try deep

breathing exercises while you walk too, they are very cleansing and

healthful.
