Guest guest
Kathie, I've been wondering about you! . .. I had planned to be in Mesa by now, and had hoped to see you! . . . I was diagnosed with breast cancer this week. So, I'm sticking around for tests and further directions. I'd suggest gathering all the information you can about the necessity for removing ALL the capsule. . ..Even some docs who don't think it's necessary with salines will remove all when they are silicone. It sounds like you're stuck with this doctor . . . As I see it, the thing to do is to educate her. The best surgeons can get all the capsule out. . . You can get much, much better even with some capsule left in, BUT, your chances of getting well are much greater if they are completely removed. If you'll search for information by Dr. Blais in Canada, you'll have what you need. As for using prostheses, two suggestions. . . One is to fashion your own bra with fiberfill held in place by a fabric panel. . . Or, put the silicone prostheses in a fabric pouch. Just don't put it next to your skin. I'm so glad you have an end in sight! . . . The time will pass sooner than you realize. You should be ready to go back to work by the time break is over! Great timing! In the meantime, pay close attention to eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of pure, non-chlorinated water, getting rest and avoiding stress and anger to the extent possible. One reason women sometimes want their implants is so the implant (and the capsule) can be sent to Dr. Blais in Canada. He can analyze them and tell you if there were any defects in the implant and which organisms are in your implants and capsules. If you are considering any legal action, the implants must be sent directly to Dr. Blais . . . not going through your hands. Do you know if they removed any muscle when you had your mastectomy? Wouldn't it be nice if these possiblities were part of the " Informed Consent " given to you before surgery? Guest guest
Rogene, Do you have Dr. Blais' contact information? I was wondering what to do with my implants after my surgery. Guest guest
Hi Kathie, I just posted a message and I am dealing with a lot of the same questions and also I am scared. Your PS appointment sounds a lot like my appointment. Everything from having a hard time finding a PS to the comment about the chest wall and doing the best to remove the tissue. I too got the totally flat comment and the PS even suggested to put in new implants. Several times the PS said you do realize you will be a small droopy A. What part of take them OUT didn't he get!! I too am scared that my symptoms will not go away. I hear what you are saying and my thoughts are with you. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that you aren't alone. Guest guest
, so happy to hear that you had a successful explant, and that the nerve pain went away. That is awesome!! I really love being flat again, too, I hated having fake boobs!! After I had the implant surgery, I thought " this is the most barberic thing in the world " . Guest guest
Hi Sis! I am very pleased with the results as well. I had very high hopes that the pain would go away, but I couldn't know for sure until I had the surgery, talk about instant gratification! I agree with you about feeling barbaric with the implants in, just knowing how the procedure is done makes me feel crazy for ever wanting them! I am so much happier with my small boobs too. I am a small girl, 5'2 100lbs - D's just don't look right on a girl that frame! I had modeling photos taken about 6 months ago, and the bikini shots are crazy - I had BALLOON BOOBS!! I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin now!auntsisnj <auntsisnj@...> wrote: , so happy to hear that you had a successful explant, and that the nerve pain went away. That is awesome!! Guest guest
thanks for your encouragement....i am hoping i have the same experience as your's! i have heard, since i had a double mastectomy, that my chest will now be concave, but as you said, if i woke up and this CONSTANT nerve pain was gone, i would be happy! kathie out of the 56 PSs, the one who would see me was nice, though not > really good at answering questions/dialoging.....she immediately > offered to take them out, saying she OCCASIONALLY sees a > reconstruction patient who " never adjusts " to implants....she can't > guarantee that explanting will solve my pain/nerve damage issues, but > she feels it is worth a try......she then went on and on about how i > will be " totally flat " ....as though that may be a reason to not do > this, in spite of two years of pain.....anyway, when i said " en bloc " > she said, well, it is different with reconstruction patients, that > she will take out the entire implants, give them to me (she offered, > but what in the heck should i do with them? i don't know if i want > them!).........then she said she will take out as much scar tissue as > she can, but the implants (silicone, remember) are actually under my > chest wall, sitting right on my ribs, (no wonder they hurt!) and so > she doesn't want to damage anything anymore than it already is! > sooooo, i am waiting to hear that the surgery is approved through > aetna......and that the date is set for my first day of spring > break..........i am scared, though......she ran through all the > possible complications, yadda yadda.........i am hoping this IS the > right choice, only cause, what if my depression gets worse when i > have no shape at all????? i guess i'll figure out some sort of > prostectic (sp?) solution.....but did you know that those are often > made of silicone, too???? so why would i put it against my skin, > which absorbs everything????????????? sigh.........any info, > support, whatever, would help........i know i haven't been around, i > have been really sick, lots of pain that i can't drug myself out > of........hope all is well with all of you! > > blessings, > > kathie > > > > > > > Opinions expressed are NOT meant to take the place of advice given by licensed health care professionals. Guest guest
thank you so much for sharing your experience with me....why is it that PSs are so, well, cold???? anyway, i will not even be an A, i will probably be a minus B, but as others have said, just get them OUT, and then woryy about the rest....i just want the pain to go away, still, surgery is scary....though i should just remember it cannot be as scary as having my breasts chopped off! blessings, kathie > > > > out of the 56 PSs, the one who would see me was nice, though not > > really good at answering questions/dialoging.....she immediately > > offered to take them out, saying she OCCASIONALLY sees a > > reconstruction patient who " never adjusts " to implants....she > can't > > guarantee that explanting will solve my pain/nerve damage issues, > but > > she feels it is worth a try......she then went on and on about how > i > > will be " totally flat " ....as though that may be a reason to not do > > this, in spite of two years of pain.....anyway, when i said " en > bloc " > > she said, well, it is different with reconstruction patients, that > > she will take out the entire implants, give them to me (she > offered, > > but what in the heck should i do with them? i don't know if i > want > > them!).........then she said she will take out as much scar tissue > as > > she can, but the implants (silicone, remember) are actually under > my > > chest wall, sitting right on my ribs, (no wonder they hurt!) and > so > > she doesn't want to damage anything anymore than it already is! > > sooooo, i am waiting to hear that the surgery is approved through > > aetna......and that the date is set for my first day of spring > > break..........i am scared, though......she ran through all the > > possible complications, yadda yadda.........i am hoping this IS > the > > right choice, only cause, what if my depression gets worse when i > > have no shape at all????? i guess i'll figure out some sort of > > prostectic (sp?) solution.....but did you know that those are > often > > made of silicone, too???? so why would i put it against my skin, > > which absorbs everything????????????? sigh.........any info, > > support, whatever, would help........i know i haven't been around, > i > > have been really sick, lots of pain that i can't drug myself out > > of........hope all is well with all of you! > > > > blessings, > > > > kathie > > >
Guest guest
Thanks so much Kathie, They will do a PET scan Tuesday to see if there is cancer at any other sites. . . . I'm kinda of nervous about that. . . If it's just in my breast, I'm fine with it - as long as I can get it out! This old gal has a few tricks up her sleeve before she's ready to let the big C get hold of her! Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
Kathie I am glad that you are back. I have wondered what was going on with you and how you were doing. I am sorry that you are still feeling so bad. Do you like this PS? Do you think that she can do a good job for you? What do you know about her skills and reputation? Is it possible that you would be able to see someone that we recommend for being thorough and skilled at explants like Dr. Huang or Dr Feng or Dr Kolb--just to get a second opinion? Perhaps that would help you decide if you really felt you should go to this PS or not--just a thought. I will keep you in my prayers for direction and for feeling better with your pain. Keep in touch about what you decide.
