Guest guest
Ruptured Implants I have been reading your information in the hope that it could help me. 1 had soya implants in 1998 but had to have them replaced on 26th June 2001 after the publicity and the withdrawal from the market. They had actually leaked after giving birth to my daughter. The surgeon replaced them with silicone gel who informed me that they were quite safe and that it was a quick and simple operation lasting approx 30 minutes. The operation actually took 1hr and 40 minutes!!. I never received any after care or any information regarding the previous implants. After about 6 months, I noticed that the form has changed slightly, the right one appeared a little loose and saggy whilst the left one seemed unusually hard. I returned to see the surgeon who told me that there was no problem. I also asked him if the itching in my arms, which had started after the first implants was related, he said it was not. The itching in my arms was awful. It woke me at night and I saw several skin specialists to no avail. I had various blood test and biopsys which also revealed nothing. The link to the silicone implants went unnoticed. A year later, I began having joint problems and was referred to a bone specialist and after having various scans was told that it was inflammation of my joints and that I had arthiritis. The pains just worsened over the year, the itching carried on despite trying every cream etc on the market. 6 months ago things progressed. I got a sudden pain through my foot and was unable to walk. The hospital bound it and gave me inflamatory tablets. Then the same thing happened to my hand. Then again my foot and more recently I had an abcess on the top of my leg which has burst and is full of poison. I have an internal lump on the inside of my elbow and awful pains in my arms, upper neck, hips and spine. The itching in my arms is unbearable and can keep me up at night and I have small lumps under my skin. I have many scars and the spots often bleed through itching. I decided to go and see an English doctor. (I live in Tenerife and have been dealing with Spanish consultants). I told her what I thought, that the implants were leaking. She sent me for an Eco scan which has proved that is the case. The right breast is leaking and the other has capuslar leakage. I have a 3mm lump in the right breast, solid lesions and various other things they have written but I am unable to translate. I am going to see a surgeon tomorrow and I have a letter from my Doctor asking for an MRI Scan to see where the silicone has travelled. To say I am scared is an understatement. I have children who depend one me and more so as their father died suddenly in December. If I had been told of the risks involved I would never had gone ahead with implants but more importantly, if I had known what silicone can do to your body and how ill it can make you, I would have been able to diagnose the problem myself much sooner. I thought this might help your web pages especially as my implants leaked after only 6 months!! (44 years)
