We do enjoy lighthearted fun, but we are living with a disease, the

complications of which are between the fourth and the ninth leading cause of

death in the U.S. (depending on which authority you cite ... it is assumed

that many heart attacks are not attributed to diabetes ... and one-third to

one-half of diabetics have not yet been diagnosed).

The ADA has issued guidelines to doctors that all adults 45 and older

should receive annual testing for fasting blood glucose levels. This should

go a long way toward locating the undiagnosed ones.

My very good friend Rob has just joined this list. He is getting a

glucose tolerance test in a week. He has good medical care, but doctors and

patients still aren't taught what to watch for. The thirst and frequent

urination signs are just too vague. My sister who used to work for a doctor

just said, " I think I read that it is normal for women to pee every two

hours, " and I said, " Well yes - if they're poorly controlled diabetics! " And

as to thirst, we just think that water suddenly " tastes really good! " With

our knowledge, we can help alert others to be tested - to reassure

themselves if they are not diabetic, or to undo their complications as soon

as possible.

Stormy, have you gotten your liver function results yet?

Susie

No I haven't gotten them yet. I wish they would hurry up. I will post as

soon as I get them. Thanks for all the info.

Hi Stormy,

My doctor checked me about 6 weeks before I was diagnosed and I had a fasting BG

of 146 so he wanted to check it again in 3 months... Unfortunately my T-2 was

catching up with me faster than that.
