Guest guest
Sis, Your doctor sounds like a winner! . . . So seldom do rheumatologists admit to implant illnesses! . . . Her willingness to do test to determine if your problems are implant related is incredible! . . . Would you please let us know which tests she orders? . .. . Did she say if she testified for, or against DOW? . . .. (She could have had her eyes opened!) I'd love to hear anything she has to say! . . . And how she explains the problems. In the meantime, don't post her name publically! . . . She might become the subject of harrassment, or worse. Some doctors who have tried to help us ended up dead! If you share her name, please do so in private messages - unless she gives you permission. Hugs and prayers, Rogene
Guest guest
Thanks, Rogene. Good point, I won't post her name. She testified AGAINST Dow. Guest guest
Sis, That is great news about your rheumy! Wow, that one's a keeper! It is so rare that they admit to implants causing illness. I'd be very interested in hearing about those specific tests. Let us know. Guest guest
Wow That's unusual for a rheumy. I have found most of them to be completely worthless. I am happy that you found her, she sounds like she is openminded and thinks for herself. Guest guest
Sis - that's great - you must have been pleasantly surprised! Please let us know about the test results. I was still thinking about Friday - now another storm is supposed to be coming tomorrow. If you are still up for meeting, let's see what the weather holds tomorrow night? Guest guest
Cherie, yes - let's play it by ear as far as the weather goes. I was talking to my sister today and she said " maybe the doctor is testing for an antibody? " and it dawned on me that the doctor did say that, she was testing for an antibody to silicone. There was just so much discussion going on, that I didn't remember that piece of information. If it does in fact come back with an antibody to silicone, I'm curious to see what she recommends, if anything. I told her I belonged to an online support group and she thought that was really great. Guest guest
Sis, One silicone gel implanted lady is trying NCD . . . Right after starting it, she began coughing up little jelly balls that look like K-Y jelly. . . She said she's breathing better with the gunk coming up. Would you ask your doctor to check out NCD - Natural Cellular Defense? There's a bunch of stuff about it online, or I can send you info. Guest guest
Sure, I'll ask the doctor to check it out. I had salines, but even so I know the shell is made of silicone. I should have asked her to have my blood checked for platinum as well, although maybe that's one of the tests she's running - not sure. Guest guest
I wonder what a silicone antibody would imply - wouldn't anyone who had implants have that? I wonder if only us that got sick have the antibody? Hmmm I'm curious to see how that turns out. Did she have a plan for you, or just waiting for test results? Most rheumatologists want to put you on toxic drugs - but this one may be different. Cherie > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > I went to visit a Rheumatologist today. Guest guest
Sis, I think Dr. Lykssi (maybe spelled wrong - he's in the Houston area) is the only one who tests for platinum . .. . Most labs are owned, or in beholdence to DOW . . . there are certain tests they just won't run - like platinum and silicone hypersensitivety. Something you might ask her to test you for is a mycoplasma bacterial infection. . . Hugs and prayers, Rogene --- auntsisnj <auntsisnj@...> wrote: > Sure, I'll ask the doctor to check it out. Guest guest
Cherie, I don't really know what it would imply, but when she calls with the results I'll be armed with alot of questions. Since she's apparently studied patients who had implant illness, perhaps she noticed a pattern when it came to the silicone antibody. She hasn't discussed next steps with me, I think it depends on the results of the bloodwork. I'm not one to take alot of medication, and if she suggested anything that would further impair my immune system I'd be against taking it. I don't know if testing negative for the antibody means anything, either - I wonder if it's possible to be sick from implants but not test positive for an antibody. I wonder if the presence of an antibody would imply that the body is fighting the implants - and maybe those who don't get sick never produce an antibody? She definitely seems different because she said there is no doubt in her mind that implants make women sick. She also noted that other types of implants (including medical devices such as shunts) make people sick as well, so I think she's a keeper. I told her I considered myself quite lucky, because my gynecologist believes implants made me sick, my psychologist believes it, and now she does, too. I consider myself lucky to have found this group, too. Sis > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > I went to visit a Rheumatologist today. Guest guest
Cherie I think the finding is significant but don't think anyone acually knows what it means and most probably don't care. I found the following article that shows a large percentage of women with fms tested positive despite the fact that they excluded anyone with breast implants. That is scary because to me it says that we are picking up silicone toxicity from skincare products, etc. Anyway, here is the article. Hugs, Kathy NEW ANTIBODIES DISCOVERED IN MANY FIBROMYALGIA PATIENTS NEWS RELEASE From: Autoimmune Technologies, LLC (NEW ORLEANS, February 10, 1999) Autoimmune Technologies, LLC, a New Orleans biotechnology company, today announced that scientists have discovered a new antibody in the blood of many fibromyalgia patients. Using a patented blood test called the Anti-Polymer Antibody Assay, or APA Assay, researchers found anti-polymer antibodies in approximately one-half of all patients who were diagnosed with fibromyalgia and in more than 60% of the fibromyalgia patients with severe fibromyalgia symptoms. Patients with diseases frequently confused with fibromyalgia, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic sclerosis/scleroderma, had a much lower incidence of these antibodies than did the fibromyalgia patients. " Our results show that there is a unique immunological response in many fibromyalgia patients, " said B. , Ph.D., president of Autoimmune Technologies and lead investigator of the published study. " We hope that these findings will lead to a better understanding of the illness and to the development of treatments for these patients. " It is possible, Dr. pointed out, that anti-polymer antibodies are associated with one of the several different causes of fibromyalgia, perhaps the cause that tends to produce the most severe symptoms. The published data indicate that this may be the case, although more research will be needed. In addition to serving as a marker for fibromyalgia, he noted, it is also possible that these antibodies are directly involved in initiating or promoting fibromyalgia. M. , M.D., a physician and scientist who is chairman of the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Disease of Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and a widely published and internationally known expert on fibromyalgia syndrome, said " There are two major problems for most physicians in accepting fibromyalgia. The first is the lack of an easily performed laboratory test. The second is its recalcitrance to therapy. The promise of a potentially useful diagnostic marker is an exciting development in this field. If the sensitivity and specificity of this test can be confirmed by independent laboratories, it could open up an important new research avenue for a condition that compromises the quality of life of five million to ten million U.S. women. " Anti-polymer antibodies were discovered by researchers at Tulane University Medical Center, where the APA Assay was developed. Autoimmune Technologies has licensed the APA Assay from Tulane. An APA Assay kit is not currently in commercial distribution in the U.S., although the Assay is being performed by Autoimmune Technologies as a service to physicians and researchers for investigational use only. A kit form of the APA Assay will be available in the near future in other countries. The APA Assay is covered by U.S. and European patents, and patents in other countries are pending. A study of women that had silicone gel-containing breast implants was done to detect the presence of serum antibodies directed against polymeric substances. They were looking for the anti-polymer antibody (APA). This study was done and the APA Assay was developed by Garry Lab Silicone Research at Tulane University Medical Center. The individuals with exposure to silicone breast implants were placed in three categories by degree of signs and symptoms of non- classical autoimmune disease. In the advanced category 68% tested positive and 43% did in the moderate catergory, with only 3% positive of those with limited symptoms. How was a study done on people with Fibromyalgia? Further testing was done as the symptoms of the people with silicone breast implants were similiar to those with fibromyalgia. This time patients with any kind of silicone breast implants or autoimmune diseases such as lupus and scleroderma were excluded from the study. The number of people in the study were 48 with fibromyalgia (as determined by ACR criteria), 16 with osteoarthritis, and 14 with rheumatoid arthritis. Reaction to ASA Assay was 48% for those with fibromyalgia, 19% for osteoarthritis and 7% for rheumatoid arthritis. " These results clearly suggest that serum antibodies to polymeric substances as detected by the APA test may be a useful marker in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia and other related conditions. " Further studies have been done and can be reviewed at http://www.autoimmune.com/APASciSumHtml.html How do I get the test? The APA Assay is being performed by Autoimmune Technologies as a service to physicians and researchers for investigational use only and is not in commercial distribution in kit form within the United States. The fee for performing the test is $145, and payment should accompany the completed Requisition Form and the blood sample to be tested.
