What type of implants did you have? McGhan textured saline Were they leaking? No How long did you have them? 9 months How long have you been sick and the symptoms? I was sick for about 4 years. It took that long for my long list of symptoms to go away. Most prominent symptoms were brain fog, chronic fatigue, vision disturbances, cogntive dysfunction, neurological signs (twitching, numbness), nightsweats, many more... Are you feeling better physically now that you have been explanted? Almost 100% back to normal. Have been explanted 8 years now, and was left with Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid disease. How long has it taken for you to get your health back? 4 years to feel good again. Is their anyone that now feels worse than before (even after the initial healing process)? Felt worse right after explant and for about 18 months-2 years afterwards, and while doing heavy detoxification therapies which have become part of my lifestyle and will continue to be until I die. > > He is being very support about this but wants to read more of your stories. http://www.humanticsfoundation.com/patty.html > > Thank you I really appreciate your responses. Guest guest
wow, that is nice that you can go to dr. kolb, rather than stay here in az and use a PS that is just going to do it, without really believeing in silicone sickness.....part of my fear about next monday, other than having someone cut me open again, is that she won't recongnize anything that is really wrong, since i had to say this is about pain (well, it is!) but couldn't say " i believe silicone is making me sick " ..........at any rate, the virginia piper cancer center is at least supossedly first rate........sooooo, as i count down days now to explant, prayers and good wishes are appreciated....and thanks to everyone who wrote about fugus and dental health! if i don't make it throught surgery, i am going to be cremated and made part of the coral reef reclaimation project.... wish me luck........ blessings, kathie > > > > Hi all. Guest guest
Penni, I was implanted six years ago with McGhan textured 350's. I unknowingly had immune issues within one year. I started having severe colds, brochitis, throat infections, kidney infections and many more. I never contributed them to the implants. I never got sick before them. Three years after implant, I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, an auto-immune bladder disease. The forth year my urologist found a mass inside my right kidney along with 20 calcified stones. These were removed by surgery. The fifth year is when the MS like symptoms started. This is the year I declined greatly. I could no longer work or attend my nursing classes. Not one doctor could tell me what was wrong with me and all my tests came out "normal". One doctor even told me to go see a psychiatrist because he was sure it was all in my head. I suffer from fibromyalgia, chronic fatugue, mental confusion, difficulty remembering, mental foggyness, and the IC. I just had my implants taken out the first week this past Feb. by Dr. Feng. After initial surgery recovery, I am now right about where I was before the surgery. I know I have a long recovery, but now I have hope for a future, where I did not before. The pathology report from the explant showed I had silicone in the capsule, so I know this is what was making me sick. My body was breaking the shell down and taking it to every area of my body. I hope this helps, Penni Pitre <penniquilts@...> wrote: Ladies, I am in the process of having the tests done that Dr. Kolb requires for explants. I haven't set a date as of yet for a consultation. Guest guest
Penni, I think the husbands really like to see concrete proof or at least some type of data, and I think that's great. I'm glad he's being supportive, and I'm sure many of us can help provide him with our stories. I got implants in May 2005. I started having symptoms quite quickly, within a week. My arms felt kind of funny at first, like pains were traveling down them to my fingers. Then I started getting heartburn about a week later, anxiety, and then my feet started to ache at about 2 to 3 weeks. Next came the lymph node swelling, about 3 weeks later. About a month later, one of my fingers swelled up in the joint and the vein was bulging, and then that entire hand started having joint pain. After that, my fingers appeared bluish and the veins were bulging in both hands. I then started having strange shooting pains, first in my feet, then it traveled up my legs, then I was having extreme muscle spasms in my legs, and then I was getting shooting pains throughout my body, including my tongue! I had heart palpitations and at night my body would tremble as I lie in bed. I had to start taking digestive enzymes because if I didn't, I would get diarrhea. Next came extreme numbness in my fingers, and then my toes, and then it there was a burning sensation under my fingernails and toenails. I started having migranes and dizzy spells, blurred vision, nausea, brain fog, and my normally low blood pressured changed to very high blood pressure. I also had bone pain. Next, my joints in my knees, elbows, and shoulders started swelling. I then had bad neck pain. I also suddenly started falling alot, and I hadn't fallen in about 20 years. After six months of that, I decided to have my implants removed in November of 2005. I'm still trying to get my body back to normal, getting the implants removed is not always a quick fix, so please let your husband know that it takes work to get better in most cases. We've seen a few who have gotten miraculously better within weeks, but for most of us it takes months, sometimes a year, and sometimes more. One thing you can guarantee, though, is that as long as the implants remain in your body, you won't get better. Without them, at least you have a fighting chance. Mentally I am so much happier without them in my body, I felt like a ticking timebomb. Sis > > > > Hi all. I was explanted on Friday. Guest guest
Kathie, Best of luck to you in your surgery. I'll definitely say a prayer for you. You have been through so much, and I'm just glad to hear that you've found someone to remove the implants. Even if she doesn't believe in silicone sickness, at least she's going to remove them, and hopefully will use drains, and will take the capsules out, too. One nice thing about pain (if there's anything nice about it), there is no doctor who can prove that you aren't experiencing pain, so I wouldn't worry about her not seeing anything wrong - because even if they're sitting nicely in your chest, she has no way of knowing or proving that they aren't causing pain. Guest guest
Kathie, I hope you weren't serious about not making it through the surgery . . . I don't remember EVER hearing of a woman who failed to make it! You're going to do fine . . . It sounds like you've got a good doctor! . . . I'm trying to educate the cancer doctors I'm seeing too! One person, one doctor at a time! Hug and prayers, Rogene
Guest guest
Penni, I had bi-lumen (saline and silicone) implants for 20 years. By the time I had my explant, the saline had long been gone and the silicone had been ruptured probably for about 5 years. I was very sick - I had horrible rashes that itched, some which just turned red, others oozed (blich), others looked like red spider webs (livedo reticularis). I also had throbbing joint and muscle pain in my hands, fingers, wrists, arms, legs, knees and ankles. In addition I had insomnia, vertigo, dizziness, clumsiness (dropping things), burning breast pain and numbness in my feet and fingers, and severe fatigue. I had hives and went into anaphlactic shock. By the time I had my explant, I had trouble walking across the room. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (from brain and c-spine MRIs and a spinal tap), lupus (blood tests and clinical symptoms), autoimmune thyroid disease (blood tests) and fibromyalgia (clinical symptoms). I could not work. I truly thought I was going to die. I became severely depressed and thought my life was over. I didn't believe that an explant would really help me get better. It did. I live in Florida and flew to Atlanta to have surgery with Dr. Kolb on April 6, 2004. The itchy and oozing rashes disappeared almost immediately, and I have not had hives since explant. It took well over a year to see a significant improvement overall. I still have abnormal blood tests - ANA and antibodies. However, my thyroid is stabalized on Armour thryoid medication. Much of my pain has subsided, and I no longer take narcotic pain medication. I do take plaquenil for lupus. Most of the rashes have disappeared. I still get a sun-senstiive and malar rash, and I have livedo resticularis from vascular disease, but it has improved. I do not take any medication for MS. I had started Avonex but stopped almost two years ago because it was worsening depression. I have not had a repeat MRI or spinal tap, since that is extraordinarily expensive and the spinal tap is invasive. I have not had any subsequent MS symptoms. I no longer get dizzy, or have vertigo, or twist my ankles or drop things. I can sleep again, and no longer take sleeping medication (except on a rare occasion). I take an antidepressant which also helps with the neuropathic pain. My goal is to quit taking that as well, but I don't want to just yet. I can say that I am no longer depressed. I passed the bar exam last July and recently started working part time. I absolutely believe that if I had not had my explant when I did, I would not be alive today. > > > > > > > Hi all. Guest guest
Penni, I had Surgitek bilumen implants in 1984. I did not start getting sick until around 1999. Guest guest
Penni, I had silicone gel implants for sixteen years . . . I started having problems within months but it took all those years to make the connection and get them out. By the time I had them removed, I had a laundry list of health problems. . . couldn't do the simplest job right, lost my job . . . lost most of the hearing in one ear. Developed scleroderma, fibromalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity. The last year I worked, they " randomly " drug tested me three times. It was obvious to everyone there was something wrong. I remember telling a friend that I felt as though I was sliding down a mountain - held back by only my fingernails. I didn't know why I was falling or how far down it was - but I knew that when I reached the bottom I would be dead. Tell your hubby, the best thing he can do for you is to give you a hug for me and stand with you all the way. He won't be sorry - not the least! I promise! Guest guest
Molly, You are indeed a medical miracle. I pretty much know from whence you came and the hardships you have endured because of your implants. I also know the turnaround for you was truly amazing given where you had been. I also know you still have a road to travel , but you can serve as an example of one who was very sick and today is regaining her health. Not only that, but a woman that is taking charge of her life once again! I wish you more of the same. Go out and grab life, girl! i am so happy for you.
