Guest guest
Hi Kathie, When your PS gives you your implants back, make sure they are packaged properly....and NOT put in formaldehyde. They need to be placed in some type of sterile package that will be sent directly to a lab for analysis. We recommend Dr. Pierre Blais in Canada because he has done such extensive testing on failed implants and medical devices of all kinds. He does charge set fees for analysis. You can contact him before your surgery to see what he recommends. The types of reports you will need will depend on what your goals are with the information he obtains. For instance, if you want to litigate, you will need specific reports. If you just want information about the type of infectious organisms you are dealing with, you would ask for a different set of reports to help you focus your healing efforts. Of course, you can forego any type of analysis at all if you just want to chuck them and get on with life. Dr. Blais still has my implants....I guess you could say I donated them to him for further research! You can have a pathology lab do analysis locally, but in that case, I would highly recommend that you send them the specific letter at this link. In fact, read through this whole link for comprehensive information regarding steps to take for explant: http://community-2.webtv.net/Lany25/LifeAfterBreast/ Kathie, I am so happy you are scheduled for explant and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I pray this will be your new beginning to a life free from pain and suffering. Be patient. Your body can heal. Guest guest
Here is another link that shares a form of letter to be sent to pathology. http://members.tripod.com/jeena3/explantletter.htm? Please avail yourself (this goes for everyone in the group preparing for explant!) of the opportunity to view all of the information in our archives about explant. We have so much....I know, sometimes it probably seems like overkill with info and links, but it is all very good stuff that is there for you to read. I'm so glad that link helped you so much Kathie. Knowledge is so important when going into this surgery. There are two folders specifically devoted to explant info on our website. One is in the links section (where it just lists links to other websites that have explant info.) The other is in our files section where we have the capability of creating text files with info related to explant. Be sure to check both folders for all the info available to you on our group!
