Hi Everyone,

I'm still lurking here. I haven't posted lately because I'm not the one

that needs to make the changes my husband does. He is type 1 for almost 20

years with excellent HA1c results (5-6). I don't know how he gets such

good results when it seems like his bg is rarely stable. His main problem

is hypos he can be as low as 20 and barely notice it. However this summer

he has had more highs than usual. To prevent the lows I think he needs to

reduce his insulin instead of treating the hypos with sugar overload when

they happen. If I told you the amount of carbs he eats you would never

believe me.(the low-carbers would drop over!) I'm so frustrated! I can't

do this for him. It is so hard to watch him. I signed up for this list

hoping he'd get interest in it. He feels like no one can help him

including his doctor and it is something only he can take care of. Which

is true but what about support?? I think a lot of times he is at a loss as

to how to correct his bg readings. If only he could see that there is help

and support out there.

Anyway I've been gathering some info so I'm more informed. I noticed that

he has been hiding things that he eats from me. (I find the wrappers) I'd

say that is a sign of a problem. Also someone mentioned recently that her

mother would say that she could eat a piece of cake because she took

insulin to cover it. Tim used this line on me yesterday.

My question... is the low-carb diet exceptable for type 1's?

Another question...I know most of you on this list are type 2's. Do you

think I should look for a group for type 1's? To tell you the truth I've

been thinking about unsubscribing because Tim should be here not me. I'm

just getting more frustrated knowing what he should be doing but he's not.

Thanks for all the info.

Yvette
