Patty,

Thanks so much for writing back so fast. I was looking forward to seeing Dr. Hamilton and then so disappointed regarding the cost. His fee is $9500 and hospital/anesthesia is $4500. $9500 is en bloc removal and removal of the capsule. This also includes the mastopexy. Then he recommends that I spend one night at Park Plaza Suites which is $1000. Five plastic surgeons own these suites and Dr. Hamilton thinks due to my pain issues with fibro that an overnight stay would be better. Also, there is a $75 fee for surgical garments. If I am in surgery longer than 6 hrs. the fee will be extra. His nurse went over the costs with me.

I asked him if he did implants also and he does. He did say that he had seen women from around the world that came to him for help wanting an explant. He said with the data out there and so many women sick from the implants he wondered why any woman would want implants. I asked him how many explants he had done and he said alot, but he did not give me an exact number. I also asked to see before/after photos and finally after 30 mts. the nurse came in with photos of a breast reduction with a keyhole mastopexy. I was disappointed because I asked for pictures of an explant with a mastopexy. The nurse could not find the explant photo. I'm wondering if it is because he really doesn't do many explants.

Dr. Hamilton gave me a drawing of the breast that he had drawn and labeled. He has written next to an arrow pointing to the rib cage---Entry into pleural cavity requiring possible chest tube. I am a RN and I know that if the pleural space of the lung is nicked it requires a chest tube in order to keep the lung inflated. It is a much bigger deal than the usual drains at the incision site. He did talk about drains and told me I would have them for sure. He also has an arrow pointing to the capsule around the implant and he wrote----Artery, Vein Injury- major nerves to arm and chest wall (possible paralysis, weakness, numbness and pain.) He has paralysis underlined. I know doctor's have to go over all the risks; I was glad to know that you have not heard of anyone developing arm paralysis.

I wish I could have it done here in Houston with my family, but I really feel deep down that Dr. Feng is more committed to the cause. Please share my e-mails so maybe it will help someone else.

Patty, do most surgeons use the keyhole mastopexy after an explant? I feel better after reading your email. When I got home from seeing Dr. Hamilton I was down in the dumps because of the cost and mad that I ever got these implants. I think I will feel better in every way to get these out of my body. My family in Houston are pressuring me to do it here, but they will support me either way. I really do not have $15 grand and it will be hard enough to come up with the $8 grand. My husband is supportive of the decision to explant; I am definitely thinking about going with Dr. Feng.

Thanks again for all your support. I am going to call Dr. Feng's nurse tomorrow and see what I find out. I will keep in touch. I think everytime you post on this site, you give women like me the courage to do this and not to feel so alone. Also, you are very knowledgeable and have helped so many women. May God bless you.

Thanks,

Re: trip to Houston

Hi ,

Wow, 15 grand is very expensive! Have you gotten a quote from Dr. Feng? I doubt that she would be that much. Yikes, I can't believe he wants that much! That seems so astronomical. Even 8 or 8 grand sounds over the top, but I guess it all depends on what they find when they get you opened up.

A 6 hour surgery sounds about right, but I don't know why you would need to stay in Houston 2 weeks. I think the longest I've heard anyone staying at Dr. Feng's is about a week.

Why don't you write the group and ask them about your experiences with Dr. Feng? There are so many girls there who were explanted by her and I know you will get alot of advice, support, and tips on the whole explant process from the girls on the group.

I have heard nothing about anyone developing paralysis of the arm or needing a chest tube. Drains, yes....is that what he is talking about? The drains are used to allow the fluids that build up in the empty pocket where your implant was to drain to the outside of your body. Drains are a good thing...I wished I had them with my explant, but I didn't and I ended up horribly bruised. Then my body had to fight all that stuff.

Best wishes....you might be better off with Feng, but I would recommend a consult over the phone with them to see where you feel the most peace about it. Let me know! Thanks for sharing your info about Hamilton. Please share it with the support group, (or can I share your letter? Let me know.)

, I used Dr. Feng 4 weeks ago today. She was awesome, very professional and compassionate. I didn't need a lift of any sort, so my explant was $6,650. That was for everything. I did have additional costs for hotel stay. We stayed at an extended stay hotel, so we had a kitchen to cook our own meals. The cost for our stay of 6 nights was around $500. There was even two health food stores right near our hotel. The pathology report ran about $450.00 which was covered by my insurance. We are still fighting the insurance about the surgery. As far as her surgical techniques are concerned, she did a wonderful job and both my husband and I are very impressed with the scars. The scars are very thin and not very dark. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask... LTricia Trish

,

's experience was very similar to my own, paid the same

amount, hotel rate was about the same, too. I didn't need a lift,

either. Also, my scars are placed in the crease and at this point I

don't notice them unless I lift my arms, and it's not like I'm

walking around the neighborhood nude waving my arms up in the air,

so I'm happy with the results. The scars are smooth, thin, even,

and are fading. I look close to what I looked like before implants,

and I'm so happy to have my natural shape back. I like being small

breasted!!

I have to agree with the others. Dr. Feng is cheaper and she has

done so many explants that she should do a good job for you. This

man sounds a little strange talking about all the things that could

go wrong. I used Dr. Feng and she never spoke about those things.

He sounds like he is all about the money to me. And that doesn't

impress me as someone you would want to go to. Just my opinion. I

am sure that God will give you a peace about who to go to.

Hi , This is no easy decision to make. After much soul searching we finally come to a decsion and when the timing is right. Continue to search out your feelings and I'm sure you will make the right choice. For many it has been Dr. Feng. We do know she comes with high recommendations and is an artist at what she does. She is highly experienced in silicone issues as well. Trust in God and you will be led to the right surgeon for you. Keep us updated on how things transpire. Let us know about your consult as well! mikat828 <mikat828@...> wrote: -I have to agree with the others. Dr. Feng is cheaper and she has done so many explants that she should do a good job for you. Also Dr. Huang in Denver, who is excellent, is less than $5000 for

everything. So that is an option. She has a great bedside manner

and I trust her implicitly. I even sent my daughter to her for a

lift after three kids and major sagging.

Hi,

I just read a bit from the your posts and others replies to your

post. I just had surgery from Dr Feng. I went with her, because

she sounded to be the most skilled and I liked the fact that she has

done 1000's of explants. I had en bloc removal of implants that

were under the muscle and also had mastopexy. Our total cost was

11,000. Thus far we are very happy with her and the staff. They

are all so caring. I feel that it needs to be that way, as it is a

new start which envolves lots of healing. You are in my thoughts and

prayers. Good luck in chosing a PS. :o) Let me know if you have

any questions that I can answer about DR Feng.

Hugs, Marcy

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for all your support. I feel so fortunate to have a website with so much information and so much emotional support. Without all of you, I probably would continue to be in denial and just blame it on my fibromyalgia. This website has really made me see the truth. I have been praying for God to lead me in the right direction and I know he has by leading me to this website.

I am planning on going with Dr. Feng the first part of June. My son is graduating from high school so I want to have the explant right after graduation. I do not think that Dr. Hamilton in Houston is the right doctor for me. His fees were 15 grand and he made it sound like he was cheap. He began by telling me that many doctor's were charging 50 grand at one time knowing that women were getting settlements from Dow. Also, he had several different size implants for women to view and he would not tell me how many explants he had done. He also said with all the negative info. on breast implants; he doesn't know why any woman would want implants. Yet he is doing alot of breast implants. I asked for a before/after picture (explantation). The nurse left for 20 mts. and came back with a photo and I asked if it was an explant and she said it was a reduction. She couldn't find a photo of an explant.

I want someone who has done alot of explants. I will keep you all posted.....again thank you for your support. Patty has also been wonderful with all her help and encouragement.

God bless all of you,.

Hi ,

I used Dr. Feng for my explant and I'm very happy with the results.

Dr. Feng is an excellent surgeon, and she'll do her best to remove

as much of the capsule as she possibly can. It is a little odd that

surgeons will perform the surgery if they believe they're not safe,

but even doctors who remove them and know they make us sick will

perform implant surgery. I think what's important is that you go

with your gut and it sounds like your logic and instincts pointed

your to Dr. Feng, and I think you'll be pleased.
