I was just watching "The Constant Gardener" again ... I highly recommend it. It's haunting. When it was first released, several of you wrote me because it seems to mirror our issue in so many ways. May God protect all of us who speak out about and all harmed by the breast implant issue. This statement too, sounded like it came from our cause: "the trials were fixed ... whenever we had a side-effect, they made us change the rules to exclude these patients ... it became the test that could not fail ..." How do they still get away with this? As many of you know, women in other breast implant so called studies, including Mentor's, were removed from the study when the removed their breast implants. Therefore, that data was totally skewed and unreliable. It's still not over. The FDA has not 'ruled' and I truly believe we can still stop them from making an error of the magnitude the breast implant industry is lobbying for. We have many new members and several requests ... please write them directly and feel free to copy me. I've just had a moment to glance at this beautiful new Christian breast implant survivor website. I do not know the author. What I read I found very inspiring. Best wishes to her on her new site. http://mhtyministry.home.mindspring.com/ At the bottom on this message is very important information from a few of our members about the pharmaceutical/quackwatch industry working to get bioidentical hormones outlawed. I've watched the PR teams gearing up in harassing the doctors who support anything different that pharma industry hormones. Please take a moment to check this issue out. I wanted to comment to that I am very, very behind on email and phone messages with a very complex schedule right now. I try to get back to all our 'new women' immediately, yet I realize some messages are going unanwered. Please bear with me ... I'm doing the best I can. With love to all, Ilena www.BreastImplantAwareness.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Gail Hamilton 'Ilena Rose' Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2006 12:47 PM Subject: what is a "booked" implant? Hello Ilena, Would you please post this to the group? I am trying to cure a deficiency on my rupture claim. I had visited the surgeon twice in the two weeks prior to explant because of severe breast pain against the chest wall and underarm pain and pain shooting down my arms and legs. Her report on those visits only says, “I can’t see anything wrong, the implant may be booked, remind me to try and save the implants for her.” The doctor says the “implant ruptured on removal & all silicone was copiously cleansed within the scar tissue and no significant silicone remained at the site.” The scar tissue was not removed at explant. She did not request a pathology report on the implants and discarded one implant in the o.r. She wrote to me, “it was a simple removal and pathology was not needed.” “One implant was too ruptured to be returned to you.” I continued to have pain complaints. A different surgeon who took a “lets wait & see” attitude after reading “no silicone left at the site,” -two years after I first saw him about a lump in my breast, he removed a “large gelatinous lump consistent with silicone” along with the scar capsule. Pathology confirmed siliconoma. I’m at my wit’s end trying to get this rupture claim approved. In order to qualify for the rupture claim the implant must be proven to be ruptured Prior to explant and not ‘ruptured during removal.” My implants were 20 years old and had been subject to closed and open capsulotomies and mammograms before the final explant with no replacements. The explant surgeon had a conflict of interest in writing a rupture report as she continued doing silicone implants after they were banned by using a clinic in the Cayman Islands where FDA laws aren’t in effect. I have a dated copy of a ½ page newspaper ad promoting her silicone implant clinic long after the ban. My question to the group is- what is BOOKED? Is it folded? If so, is the crease a rupture? Help! I look forward to any information anyone can send me. Once again, thanks for your help Ilena! I couldn’t have survived this ordeal without you and the group. Lots of love & warm hugs to all of you, Gail ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Cdulincarol@... ilena@... Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2006 4:27 PM Has there ever been a settlement of the issue of breast implants? I have had implants for 30 years and would like to have them removed. Please help. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HI, My name is Toni. I am 50 years old. I had breast implants over 15 years ago, they ruputured about 10 year ago, I had silicone put back in.. Some silicone had leaked under my arm, the surgeon said he had a hard time getting it out under my arm. FOr years it has just felt hard in that area. THe last 3 years, my skin was red although, no problem, the area is a about 1 inch by 4 inches. Well for the last several months it is acting like a foriegn body wanting to come out on its own. It is really gross, a area about the size of a dime, its definately silicone, I feel no pain in that area. I know I need to go to the doctor for surgery. Has any one else had this problem? THe doctor says he will do like a partial mastectomy to get all that out. I have had no other health problems, I don't feel it has leaked to other parts of my body. I guess I just wanted to talk to someone that maybe has had this happen to them. Thanks , My e-mail address is toni.malguin@... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: dpettitt@... Ilena and Rogene: I am working on a class action with an attorney in New Orleans for saline breast implants patients. This is structured with both implant manufacturers in mind. The majority of the settlement will be for research and development. The research involves studying biomarkers in the blood of women who present with The Sick Silicone Syndrome and to develop a screening method before women get implants. We need all of the women we can find to participate in the class action to fund this much needed research. Women who become a part of this class action settlement will not personally gain financially. If the FDA and the NIH will not fund these essential studies we must create a way to perform this much needed research. We have the laboratories on board and the scientific panel. We just need funding. This will change the way plastic surgeons inform their patients and a mandate for this essential screening test prior to implantation. With this much needed testing, patients will be well informed about the potential side effects relating to their operation and health consequences. This will also develop a much needed implant registry. Saline implants have little attention related to illness. Most of the research focuses on the silicone rupturing causing illness. In actual fact, as we are all aware, silicone is silicone. It is present in the shell regardless of the content inside. We have started and will continue to inform women and change lives with all of these support groups. WOMEN HELPING WOMEN! I will email you with more information as it becomes available. Eight years later, after graduating, I was implanted with D-cup boobs, which were huge on my tiny frame. From the beginning I started to have weird rashes, mouth ulcers and chronic sinus infections. I suffered with chronic pain in my right breast and have permanently lost feeling on the same side. After three years of misery, I had them taken out. The total of my surgeries (three to be exact: implanting, lift for pain, explant) is more than $13,000. "They ruptured and leaked." A second set of implants also ruptured, and a year and a half ago, Hainline decided to go flat - with one final operation to remove as much scar tissue as possible. ~~~~~~~~~~~` From: A. Please forward this to everyone on your email list. The drug companies and other big corporations are running our country, we need to stop them.
