Guest guest
Hi all, My six year old son was put on Entocort by Dr. K and we are just finishing our first month. Dr. K has advised us to continue using for a total of three months. I have a couple of concerns and want to get opinions: First, how long before you saw results? My son just started having a formed bowel movement a few days ago but I can't assume it is from the Entocort and that it is going to continue. Second, I think we are experiencing " moon face " because my son looks very bloated in the face. Is anyone experiencing this? We have been on Pentasa for a year and just had our one year check up with Dr. K. He wants to keep everything the same and continue Entocort for three months before deciding if it is not helping. My mommy " gut " is telling me to stop the Entocort because most of my son's gut problems are bacteria related and I am not a fan of long term steroid use. I really need to know what others are experiencing with Entocort. Please feel free to e-mail me off group. Also, my son is hungry hungry hungry. Thanks, Dayna
Guest guest
Hi Dayna, My 2 year old is on Entocort and we're just finishig our first month too. For us, we saw an immediate reduction in her pain - she slept through the night the first day we started it. I'm a pharmacist as well, so I hope I can help you figure out what might be happening with your son. What is the dose he's taking? There are some medications and foods that can interact with Entocort. Is he on any of the following: prescription antifungals, cyclosporine, or erythromycin? Does he eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice? The Entocort isn't supposed to become systemic, as it is meant to work locally within the gut and become processed by the liver in a way that it doesn't get absorbed into the bloodstream very much. But as we all know, these process don't always work like they're supposed to in our kids. If you are seeing the moon-face, and he isn't on any other steroid that could be causing it and isn't on the above medications or eating grapefruit, then for some reason it sounds like the Entocort is getting into his system in a much higher level than it should be. Perhaps it's not being inactivated properly by the liver? Have you had a liver function test or liver enzyme levels done recently? Is he on any liver support, like milk thistle or liverlife? Or perhaps he just has a really leaky gut and the Entocort is getting through before being metabolized? Hope I can help, Sheri > > Hi all, > > My six year old son was put on Entocort by Dr. K and we are just finishing our first month. > Dr. K has advised us to continue using for a total of three months.
