Patty, I'd be interested in the info. on permanent retainers, too, as I have them, and also wires (titanium?) in my jaw from jaw surgery. Thanks. Sorry I'm late posting to this -- I've been on vacation.

I had braces for 26 months and just had them removed about a year and a half

ago. Clear plastic retainers are made now and completely replace any metal

retainers. My son and I both have them and we sleep in them. Orthodontists

here generally prefer the plastic retainers because they aren't easily

damaged.
