I just read on another thread about the toxic levels coming off pans, and also toxins from aluminum foil. Does anyone know anything on the metal band that orthodontists place on the inside of teeth after braces have been removed, to keep the teeth from moving? Thanks so much glory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote: Kathy,I had braces too, and I was told by my dental hygienist that many brace-wearers end up with TMJ issues. Nice, huh? My youngest son has braces right now and has been complaining about his jaw. Ugh...I pray that he does not end up with any TMJ issues like I did.I am sorry for your son having this trouble! If he is taking ibuprofen daily, please make sure he is also taking NAC

(N-acetyl-cysteine) to protect his liver too. (Did you see that article I posted recently on that?)And make sure that he eats a good diet providing lots of glutathione too!Hugs,Patty> >> > Kathy,> > > > They make dental mouthpieces that you wear at night to> > keep your jaw relaxed . . . ,

I just came back from my son's orthodontist appt....I wish I had asked

him about this. It is my impression that the metals used in

orthodontics include nickel, which probably isn't a good thing to have

in the body long term. Retainers used to be removable...at least mine

were when I got my braces off. My oldest son lost his retainer, so I

know his was removable, then my 2nd son ended up with a permanent

retainer before he went into the Navy. I am going to find out what

they are made of next time I go.

I've read information that suggests orthodontic metals are not good

things to have in the body. While I agree, I also wasn't willing to

let my kids go through life with crooked teeth. My preference is that

the retainer be a removeable one, and I will be asking my son's

orthdontist to make it so.

Hi Kenda,

Welcome back! I hope you had an enjoyable cruise!

A plastic retainer sounds like a good idea too!
