Guest guest
Does anyone have a friend, relative or someone living in Madison, Wisconsin who can get us a copy of Thursday's (9/21) Wisconsin State Journal? There is an article in it - " STUDY FINDS NO SICK-BUILDING LINK AT MATC HIGH LEVELS OF ILLNESS AMONG SCHOOL EMPLOYEES ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE BUILDING, STUDY CONCLUDES " written by Ed Treleven that I would like to post to our group. We have heard so much about the importance of epidemiologist's studies - I would like to read what the report said. The article starts off saying, " A study of health problems reported by Madison Area Technical College staff has found no connection between high levels of illness among MATC employees and the building where they work. Hausbeck, environmental epidemiologist at the Madison Department of Public Health, presented the report Tuesday to the Joint MATC Indoor Air Quality Committee.... " I would like to know HOW he arrived at this conclusion when 4 people have positively been diagnosed with sarcoidosis and 3 more are undergoing testing to see if they too have this " rare " lung disorder. Since most of the data I've read strongly suggests that this is an environmental disease and the incidence should only affect 1 out of every 100,000 people - how can this not be connected to MATC? I would like to have a clearer understanding of just how an epidemiologist works collecting data and arriving at conclusions of causation. If you understand this and are so inclined - please explain it to our group. Barbara
