Guest guest
I am looking into Son-Rise and what their program is like. I met someone who is really happy with her Son-Rose program and am going to talk to her more in depth about it. I am intrigued because when I watched a video on it, the son it was originally started for (and recovered) was exactly like my son. Has anyone gone from ABA to Son- Rise? When we were doing ABA through Early Intervention, my son hated it and basically shut down. His school program is ABA based and while he is doing good, I want to make sure it is really the best for him. I would love to hear any experience, good or bad. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi My grandson was on the Son-Rise programme for 7 years and still is after school. We found it life changing for all of us. Charlie was non verbal and in nappies when he started and his parents had been given no hope or guidance. Although we bumbled along at first he quickly became potty trained, started to speak and gained a marvellous imagination. He is now 10 years old and he was ready for school (very good learning difficulties school) at 8 years old. He took to it straight away. Although he has had many health problems this year (PANDAS, Candida) and is still on diet, chelation and many suppliments, he still continues to improve and still enjoys his Son-Rise playroom and one to one play with his dad, his godfather and myself. I would recommend Son-Rise. Jill -- In mb12 valtrex , " kptert " wrote: > > I am looking into Son-Rise and what their program is like. Guest guest
we have gone from ABA to SonRise. We are very pleased with this change. However I don't regret using ABA. We had a home program and I felt this vital to establish intensive dietary changes for my son at that time. I had a newborn baby in a sling and a child lost in his own world. I don't know how I could have implemented Sonrise and addressed diet. I'm sure it can be done, but I'm pleased with the path we've chosen. I believe our ABA program was a very good match for our son at one point in his recovery. However I just knew we needed to stop. It was obvious that we weren't able to get to his true missed milestones of social using ABA. We tried changing providers even. For us I realized that our son was in some ways " more " autistic because of ABA. He was hording his favorites and stimming all the time. He was coping in the mainstream, but not really thriving. When we finally just joined him as SonRise advocates, he looked at us with delight and we finally had our son back. The connection was made. He is so eager to play with us. He is becoming so confident and social. I don't believe you can truly teach one to be social. I believe it has to come from within a person. I think the child has to desire this. SonRise creates a social situation where for the first time since diagnosis maybe somebody likes to do what I like to do rather than making me stop. You join the child where they are. They show you the way in , so that you can show them the way out. Maybe most helpful for our family was the emotional healing I did while at the Option Institute for SonRise start-up. I am much more able to navigate my son's recovery because I am well, confident, and at peace. I believe my fear was blocking my son. He could feel it. He is so happy and connected now that I'm ok. I'm grateful for all the behavioral strategies I learned using an ABA home program. This still comes in handy. Because of ABA I'm good at breaking things into steps. I do know kids who get well and ABA works really well. I think once the child can process better and start to learn naturally, they are desiring this social connection. So ABA just helps them to make sense of things. For my son though, he really needs this slowed down, and exaggerated approach in a distraction free environment. We as a family need joy and fun. I feel like we all have a personality now. I feel like I can now use my natural instincts to just be a Mom. What a gift. I'm sure every family finds different ways. I know some who use RDI successfully. I highly reccomend SonRise. > > > > I am looking into Son-Rise and what their program is like. Guest guest
Hi , I did read Engaging Autism and used some of those techniques at home. We have been using bits of things that I am learning that I see work for my son. He is also severely apraxic but finally attempting to speak. I have to look into what we are entitled to at the state level. I would love for him to be able to keep his school SLP if we go with Son-rise. ABA seems to be the least effective for my son. I guess he has trouble with authority already! I am looking for the "next step" with how we can help him. We have seen small gains with most things but when we apply some of the Son-rise techniques that I am reading-he is already responding. So I am thinking that is the path for us to take now. We are still doing biomed and I am hoping the two together can really help us move forward. Thanks so much for your reply. Apraxia is tough! I think a lot of his behavior comes from his inability to talk. It breaks my heart
