Hi Dawn,

I'm doing great! . . . The mass was malignant - but

small . . . Say, Stage 1/2 . . . I had a lumpectomy

and Mammosite radiation therapy (they fill the cavity

with a small balloon into which a wire with

radioactive seeds is inserted. They gave me a high

dose of radiation for ten minutes - then turned me

loose for six hours. I did this for five days and was

through . . . The entire affair, surgery and

radiation, was pain free. No pain, no burns, no

fatigue, hair loss, etc.. Basically it was just a huge

nuisance.

However, the post-surgery drug that I'm supposed to

take for years is the drug from Hell! . . . I intended

to take it for three months, regardless. However, I

gave up this past week. I'd rather die next week than

live my life on it for twenty years! It was as hard on

my brain as on my body!

Today, I feel like myself again! . . . I'm going to

depend on nutrition, supplements and good living to

stay cancer free . . . And, if it does reoccur, I'll

know what I missed (the medicated feeling) made it

worth taking the chance.

I've just put two and two together though . . . I

think my mother's health problems (that came on

suddenly after she started taking a similar

medication) are more related to the medication than to

aging. She went from not needing any medication and

living on her own to needing numerous medications and

being in a nursing home within a short time of

starting the medication! I'm going to call her doctor

tomorrow.

Rogene,

I am so glad to hear that you quit taking that medication. I refused

to take it when I finished chemotherapy. And it has been 15 years,

and I was in Stage II cancer.

I am soooooo sure that you will feel better. I researched some of

the alternatives and decided to go with nutrition.

Time magazine had an interesting article . . .

They've found that SOME breast cancers have a small

number of certain stem cell that is a predictor of

whether or not the cancer will migrate. . . The hope

is that they can find a way to target this particular

stem cell.

I'm going to ask my doctor if they can examine tissue

from the mass to see if it has these stem cells. It

seems to me that, if they can predict on this basis,

they wouldn't have to use these awful post-op estrogen

blockers in a lot of women!

Hugs,

Rogene
