From one of our silent sisters:

" If we can get all the children tested for silicone

toxicity and silicone children test for ionized

platinum we can do something because CDC told me 2 or

3 years ago if we get 300 from all over the U.S. or in

one spot that test positive, they by law would have to

come in and test. The TV channels here in town told me

they would back us if we got close but I couldn’t get

anybody to get tested. What else could we test for ?? "

I'll be happy to keep a tally of those who have been

tested and test positive for anything that is making

the children sick. . . Please send me your address,

phone number, and test results. I'll create a folder.

When we get to 300, we'll take action! . . . Please

let your friends who have sick children know about the

testing. There is some free ionized platinum testing

still available - but the criteria for a study must be

There are only a few sources of platinum in the

environment while silicone is everywhere.

Any detectable level of ionized platinum is a health

hazard, the more the worse it is. Harbut,

M.D. states " I have treated over 1,000 women with

breast implants and have regularly seen the diseases

caused by platinum salt exposures. As I published in

1999, women with exposure to platinum salts via their

implants commonly present with shortness of breath,

asthma, itching, rhinitis, memory loss,

gastrointestinal disturbances, sometimes pulmonary

fibrosis and sometimes COPD, among other, less common

presentations. "

Dow notified the EPA in 1996 of substantial risk to

their platinum catalyst used in making breast implants

and stopped making implants the same year.

The free testing program is for a limited number of

women with 1988 or later gel-filled implants

(third-generation implants) and their children born

prior to and after implantation (the FDA is currently

trying to approve third generation implants).

However, anyone with gel-filled implants who can

afford the $150 for platinum urine testing (if

platinum is found another $50 can determine if it is

ionized) can be included in the research project.

Research shows that platinum salt exposure has been

associated with contact dermatitis, asthma,

immunogenicity, inhibitory effects on brain enzymes

(can cause brain damage), neurotoxicity, mutagenicity,

carcinogenicity, and allergic anaphylactic reactions.
