Guest guest
Roxana, I wanted to answer some of your other questions that I didn't in my other letter. First, the en bloc or total capsulectomy will be the best way for you to know that for sure you've given yourself the best chance to get better. If you have your implants removed, but the doctor leaves the scar tissue, there is a chance that you can heal, but there is also the very real chance that your body will continue to react to the leftover scar tissue and you can remain ill. In the long term, you can remain ill and even get worse. This happened to alot of women in the early years after breast implants were first used, and then because the women were not getting better, the doctors claimed that it wasn't the implants making women sick after all. But the truth is that the body can still react to the materials that may remain in the body after implant-only removal. Scar tissue can contain silicone oils, degradation products, bacteria, and other junk that needs to be elminated for proper and complete healing to take place. Second, you asked if the leaking saline would be as dangerous as the leaking silicone. The answer is, it could be. It depends upon what is inside the saline--whether it is contaminated or not. Generally, leaking silicone is going to be more dangerous than saline, as it can migrate to various organs in the body, such as the brain, lungs, ovaries, kidneys, liver.... and will become basically irretreivable. It can do all sorts of damage. Your body will try to eliminate it and it may come out in small lumps that work their way to the surface of your skin, but it may also stay stuck in the body and just do lots of unseen damage. Pain is felt, but how do you see pain on tests? There are millions of women in terrible pain from implants. It's hard to answer your inquiry about what is happening...I wish we knew specifically, but all I can really say is that your body is having a negative reaction to your implants. It is affecting your immune system and your chances of getting back to normal become very good once you get the breast implants removed properly. All of the symptoms you mentioned are ones that I have had, as well as many thousands of other women. I got better after removal of my implants, so I KNOW the implants were making me sick. Alot of women have found that out too. I don't know how to convince doctors of this need apart from sharing with them the many stories we have of healing and of the many studies that are available that show silicone to be toxic to the body. Explantation is an easier surgery than implantation. How does it work?....They will make a cut in the same one that you had upon implant usually, (unless that is not feasible), and they will probably drain the implant, then remove the implant shell and capsule. Surprisingly, women look very good after explant. I know I am very happy with my results, and I've seen many women that looked fantastic. With a good surgeon, the scars will be almost invisible, and your shape should revert to your former shape. There is a certain amount of elasticity in the skin that bounces back wonderfully. While the breast tissue may be compressed at first and look flat, over time it will fluff back into place and almost every woman I have talked to has said that they are the same size as before...some even a cup larger. You don't have to look bad, and if a surgeon suggests that you will end up that way, consider that to be a self-condemning statement of their lack of skill in being able to do it right. Run from them. I hope this helps answer your questions. You will have to do your research for a good doctor to explant you. If you cannot find one, you may have to travel. I wish you answers in your search! Patty > > Hello, > My name is Roxana I had my saline breast implant 9 months ago, I am > experiencing problems since Novemeber 15, 2005. Guest guest
Hi Patty, Thank you so much for your e-mail I feel so much better after reading it and knowing that you and others understand me. I was never told that the implants could harm me but I am now sure that they are. I will talk to my surgeon to have them remove as soon as possible and to be sure that they are going to be explant in the correct way. I have a question should I ask for a LIFT imediately, or I will never need that. To be honest with you after this horrible experience I don't want to know nothing about surgeons, specially plastic ones. Once again THANK YOU and keep in touch. I will right to let you know what the surgeon said before programing the explants to be sure that He will do the right thing. Take care. Guest guest
Hi Roxana, I had a lift upon explant, but it was recommended to me by my explanting surgeon due to the excessive sagginess I had after breastfeeding my 4 kids. If you have never been pregnanat or had children, you will not likely need a lift. If you were saggy at the time of your implant, then it would probably be a good idea to consider a lift. Whatever condition your breasts were in at the time of implant, you can expect to go back to that shape upon explant, unless you had significant changes to your breasts while implanted. (Such as pregnancy, significant stretch marks, weight gain, etc.) Your plastic surgeon will be the best one to determine what is needed to make you look the best upon explant, if he/she is a good plastic surgeon. It is highly recommended that you ask for pictures to look at, keeping in mind that they are going to show you their best outcomes. Discuss fully what you would like accomplished, and if the doctor is a kind, compassionate, understanding and ethical doctor, he/she will try to accomodate you with kindness and not make you feel threatened. I wish you the best success in finding a good explanting surgeon Roxana! I know you are blazing a new trail there in Peru, so please let us know how it works out and what kind of experience you have in your search.
