learning to cope with diabetes

There have been a few posts recently from some newly diagnosed members of

this gawdawful club we now belong to, and they are concerned about how to

give up the junk food they have been eating for many years. I too went

through that and fully understand how they feel. My diabetic educator

pointed out to me that the way we now have to eat is really the way people

should be eating in the first place. Lots of vegies, lean meats, fruits,

dairy products, watch the fats, and stay away from the junk. In addition

to all that, we diabetics really do need to watch the carbs as the majority

of us just can't handle them! So when I thought about all of this, yes she

was right, it is the healthiest way for any person to eat! That made me

feel better, knowing I was actually doing something good for my body, now

that I had screwed it up. I have just gone through the first winter that I

can ever remember where I didn't have a cold or the flu or any other bug

that would have made my life miserable for a week! This surely must have

something to do with eating better!

On that humble note, I am off to have a big bowl of salad for lunch!
