Guest guest
Polly, We have a lot of information in the archives that will help you understand the importance of en bloc/total capsulectomy. In particular, look for information from Dr. Blais. He has examined thousands of breast implants and found a host of contaminents in the implants and capsules. A capsule is tissue that grows around an implant - any implant. It's the body's way of walling off self from non-self. In the case of breast implants - where the material is soft and the envelopes are semi-permiable, these capsules contain silicone debris from the envelope, as well as organisms that may be growing in your implants and seeping out. En bloc means that the doctor will cut around the entire capsule (if possible) and remove the capsule with the implant still inside. The few doctors we recommend without reservation - Huang, Kolb and Feng will do everything possible to remove your implants en bloc. If it's not possible - because of the proximity to vital nerves or blood vessels, every effort should be made to remove every bit of capsule. Failure to have everything removed does not mean a woman won't get better. However, her chances of a full recovery are much better - and she should get better faster. Surgeons use a variety of incisions to remove implants .. . . the type of incision will depend on what a surgeon thinks will be best for you. If you have a " lift " (mastopexy), you will have a different incision than with a simple removal. If a doctor tells you that you'll be deformed without implants, RUN! A good surgeon will make you look good. You'll likely return to your before implant size. Does this help? . . . Keep asking questions . . . we want to help! Hugs and prayers, Rogene
