rewinding while I was cleaning the living room. The VCR shut off, and channel 4

came on, the VCR base channel. It was the show, and they were

showing a hidden camera view of a family's living room and noting how much tv

the kids watched, and critiquing, noting that " none of the children are doing

any hobbies or activities, no one has initiated any activity with the children

at all... "

Well, crap. Didn't that just send me into a downer. My kid CHOOSES tv and

video over all else, except the computer. Initiate activities? I rarely do. I

just stopped after being rejected time after time after time after time after

time. Too depressing. But now has reminded my that only crappy

mothers (who, in this video, also beat their kids with a flyswatter) neglect

their kids in such a manner.

Oh, I was going to be such an involved mother...if only I could regale you with

my plans...for the first three years of 's life I stockpiled activities we

do, things we could read, books of activities to do with children... Most got

sold at the garage sale; many others have been thrown away with a melancholic

sigh...I check similar things out of the library but don't even try since I

can't face the excitement of him being interested for the first minute and a

half, followed by the crushing blow of his wandering away saying " I sick of

this " ...
