Guest guest
Hippocrates, Aristotle, Galen, Paracelsus, Plato, Socrates and other great philosophers, scientists and physicians all promoted and used fasting as a method of cleansing, healing and renewing the body. Paracelsus, the great 15th century physician stated " Fasting is the greatest remedy--the physician within! " Ben lin's many wise sayings included " To lengthen thy life, lessen thy meals. " and another, " Many dishes, many diseases, " " Dine with little, sup with less; do better still, sleep supperless. " , and " Eat to live, not live to eat. " Plutarch, the Greek philosopher said, " Instead of medicine, fast for a day. " The Bible itself is full of references to the practice of fasting.... " Yet, even now " , says the Lord, " return to me with all your heart, with fasting... " 2:12 We know that Jesus himself fasted and prayed often. And notice that he said " When you fast….not IF you fast. ( 6:16-18). For those with a concordance, I suggest looking up the word " fast " or " fasting " and see the many references to it. The fasting credo of the famous Buchinger Clinics in Germany and Spain states, " We must restore fasting to the place it occupied in an ancient hierachy of values " above medicine. " We must rediscover it and restore it to honor because it is a necessity. A beneficial fast of several weeks, as practiced in the earliest days of the Church, was to give strength, life and health to the body and soul of all Christians who had the faith and courage to practice fasting. " F. Balch, MD states in the " Prescription for Nutritional Healing " , " A fast can help you heal with greater speed; cleanse your liver, kidneys and colon; purify your blood; help you lose excess weight and water; flush out toxins; clear the eyes and tongue, and cleanse the breath. " " Fasting regularly gives your organs a rest and helps reverse the aging process for a longer and healthier life. " " Fasting reduces the immune system's workload, increases tissue oxygenation, and releases and excretes fat-stored toxins. " Dr. is Carrel, Nobel Prize Winner and author of " Man, the Unknown " , states, " Deprivation of food at first brings a sensation of hunger, occasionally some nervous stimulation--but it also determines certain hidden phenomena which are most important. The sugar of the liver and the fat of the subcutaneous deposits are mobilized, as are the proteins of the muscles and glands. All the organs sacrifice their own substances in order to maintain blood, heart, and brain in normal condition. Fasting purifies and profoundly modifies our tissues. " Pamela Serure, author of The 3-Day Energy Fast, states, " Periodic fasting keeps you connected to your body's natural tendency to cleanse and rejuvenate.
