Rogene,

I read in your response to Ginger that after explant that " you're

going to be filling out for some time yet " . Does this mean that there

is the possibility of some tissue returning (if one has a lift) and

that there could be a return of shape similar to what used to be

before implants?

. . .

Think of what happens when you sit on a pillow, then

get off it . . . At first the pillow is virtually

flattened, then it gradually fluffs up to it's

original size . . .

This is similar to what goes on with women when they

have their implants removed . . . Some women leave

surgery virtually concave. However, as time goes by,

they start filling out.

I'm sure a lot depends on how much tissue remains. A

woman who's had a mastectomy can't expect much

fluffing.

A surgeon who is experienced in removing breast

implants should be able to tell you how much you're

likely to fluff and if you'll need a lift. I suspect

some surgeons do a lift as part of the explant and

don't charge " extra " . By the time they've made the

incision to remove the implant, the lift is relatively

simple.

I've never heard of a woman who got a lift and felt

she was too large after fluffing though.

I had a lift and am very pleased with the results. The

results are better than the way I looked with implants

.. . . or before implants. IMHO, most women seeking

breast implants would be thrilled with a good

mastopexy (lift).

Hugs,

Rogene

, I know it is scary preparing for explant. I just had my explant on Jan16th and am still at home recovering physically and emotionally. There is alot of patience involved in the healing. Dr Feng is an excellent surgeon and you can have faith that she will do a great job for you!! I'll tell you one thing, the feeling of finally being free of implants is exhilirating. Good luck :) Katy:)lisatucholski <lisatucholski@...> wrote: Ok thank you Patti. I relize no one

I have had some sensation return and I just had my explant 6 days ago! I had almost complete numbness on one side with the implants. I was worried about the blood supply on the numb side, but it is actually healing faster and with less pain than the breast I thought was healthier. I have been experincing some sharp jolts of pain which I believe may be the nerves healing. Thank you Katy. Im so glad that you were finally able to get those

things out for good. Was it as bad as when you had them put in. Dr.

Feng explained it as if i would be able to do things the next day.

Within reason of course- No heavy lifting but i can go out and visit

different places since i will be in another state. Your explant was

less then a week ago so give it some time, im sure you will just

fine from here on out. The great news is you can only get better

from here on out :)

wow that is great to hear. Sounds like you had the same feeling as i

do. Im am starting to panic a little as it gets closer but honestly

if i could have scheduled this sooner i would have. I just can not

wait to get these out which i find ciomplelty ironic becuase i

waited so long to get them put in. I get the sharp jolts

occassionaly in the right breast even with the implants in.

, I'll be honest with you, I think explant is different for each woman, but I can share my experience so far. For me it has been much more difficult emotionally than physically. Not to say it hasn't been painful, but I only took tylenol 3s for the first 4 days. After that I moved on to a few advils a day for pain. My implants were in under the muscle for 10 years. I had an internal lift with my explant and my incisions are around the aereola. I went from a full C cup to an A. Right now I am still mushy and squishy, bruised and misshapen. I feel discouraged about the results, but am crossing my fingers that things will improve as I heal. Most of my pain has been in my axilla. Because my implants were under the muscle, I have not really had use of my arms. The worst of the pain was on the second day and from there it improved quickly. I remember getting my implants was very painful, but the sense of

instant gratification seemed to make it easier. With explant, I am experiencing a sense of loss emotionally. Again, I'm sure this is different for everyone. I haven't felt up to leaving the house for 6 days. I have been vey tired and sore. Despite all of this, I am so happy its over!! The surgery itself really wasn't so bad. That was the easy part;) I was dreading it for so long and am happy now to just focus on healing. I am also inccredibly happy to have those implants out of my body. I cried as soon as I woke up in recovery because I couldn't believe I was finally free of them. I hope that helps you prepare a little. Please feel free to ask me anything . When is your surgery booked for?? Katy:) lisatucholski <lisatucholski@...> wrote: Thank you Katy. Im so glad that you were finally able to get those things out for good. I complelty understand when you say you cried from relief. i can not

get these things out fast enough. I am so sick of never knowing how

i am going to feel upon waking up in the morning and having the

pressure or heart palpitations at night when i lay down. From what i

hear many women have to wait a few months min. to fully fluff before

their breasts settle to their new size so please keep that in mind.

To be honest though that is my biggest fear right now as well

because lets face it from the outside they were perfect and now they

are much smaller BUT you are getting your health back so that's what

really matters. (I know easier said then done) Just remember this

when i am posting the same thing 5 weeks from now. :) My implants

are under my muscle as well only i had them put in 3 years ago. I

had a lift at the time so Dr. Feng does not seem to think that i

need another one so Im not sure how much of a difference in recovery

that will make but if i remember correctly the manipulation of the

muscle was what hurt the most and Im assuming she will have to cut

the muscle again to get the implant out. I am scheduled for Feb 20.

Who did your surgery? If i remember right and please forgive me if i

am wrong, you were the one who had been searching for a doctor for

over a year in Canada, correct? Who did your explants?

, Yes, its funny.. There was a very long time where I felt I didn't care what I would look like as long as I got the implants out. Now that I have had the surgery, my first focus is on how I look since its right there plain as day. You feel pretty crap anyway from the drugs and the pain and so on. Before my explant the thing I had the most anxiety about was how I would feel about the shock of the surgery and indeed my explant was shocking. After 10 years, I didn't know what was left of my natural breasts. I really think I will adjust to being smaller, as long as I heal up nicely and evenly. Right now, despite the lift, I look very droopy and loose. I'm sure that is to be expected, its just hard to see! Don't worry, I will remind you about all of this in 5 weeks when you have your surgery. I should be well on my way by then! It was about 2 and 1/2 years

between me deciding my implants were connected to some health issues and being able to actually get them out. It has been a rollercoaster... It took me a long time to find a surgeon and save/borrow the money I needed to explant. I know all of this has to do with how emotional this has been for me. I saw a surgeon called Dr Khanna and she is in the greater Toronto area. Katy:)lisatucholski <lisatucholski@...> wrote: I complelty understand when you say you cried from relief. i can not get these

(I know easier said then done) Just remember this when i am posting the same thing 5 weeks from now. :) My implants are under my muscle as well only i had them put in 3 years ago. I had a lift at the time so Dr. Feng does not seem to think that i need another one so Im not sure how much of a difference in recovery that will make but if i remember correctly the manipulation of the

muscle was what hurt the most and Im assuming she will have to cut the muscle again to get the implant out. I am scheduled for Feb 20. Who did your surgery? If i remember right and please forgive me if i am wrong, you were the one who had been searching for a doctor for over a year in Canada, correct? Who did your explants?> > > >> > > > Does anyone know if having an explant procedure can affect any > > > nerve > > > > damage that may have been caused by the original procedure. > > > Basically > > > > i went to see a local doctor before i scheduled my explant > with > > Dr > > > > Feng. Rogene,

Not all printed stuff is distressing, researching the types of chemo

and the side effects is helpful. There are things I wish to know

before I see the doctor.

- I found wearing zip-up hoodies and sweatshirts to be the most

comfortable with my drains. Anything a bit oversized that you don't

have to put over your head is probably going to be best.

When's your explant?

- I am glad you are hanging in there. I know I was EXTREMELY worried my PS would cancel my surgery. I think you will be just fine. Jsut listen to your body and if it is saying to wait then wait but I think you will be fine. Are you allowed to take Zinc??? When I went in for mine, my nose was stuffy but it seems like once I was in there, the room was so cold that it opened me up and I could breathe better.

Thanks for asking....I feel pretty darn good. I have had a little mild dizziness the past couple of days but it has been a tough weekend as we had a death in the family. However, my energy is still good and my tummy is GREAT!!!!! If someone would ahve told me a month ago that my tummy would be better, I would have laughed at them......well it is just like it happened within a few days and poof, I am doing good. I think the head issues and memory trouble will linger the longest as most people say that is the last thing to go. I notice my eye sight does not seem to be what it used to be but I can not tell if it is actually my eye sight or just my dizziness taking a little longer to process what I am looking at. Either way, it is not enough to slow me down, it is just annoying at this point.

Hang in there, stay positive and know we are here for you......ok better go, it looks like my power is flickering...we are having an ice storm moving in right now.....

Send lots of love and praying you will get over your cold soon.....

Hi Patty,

I just went out and got the Zinc and vitamin C. Dr Feng said i could

take up to 1000mg a day of vitamin C. Do you think that has anything

to do with the surgery or should i just keep taking them throughout

the day? Is there a limit i should be taking with the Zinc?

Thanks,

Hi Beth,

Dr feng did not mention anything about Zinc but she did say that ui

can take up to 1000mg of Vitamin C a day but Patty said to keep taking

vitamin C every hour. I'm going to wait till i get home to check my

paper to see if Zinc is one of the things i cant have just in case.

Good luck with your storm. Ice stinks!

There are two reasons to limit the Vitamin C before surgery.

ONE: Vitamin C will thin the blood (you want to be able to clot)

and

TWO: make it difficult for the anesthesia to take effect. I

experienced this first hand, having a Vit C IV right before a dental

appt. BAD NEWS! The poor dentist had to shoot me up many times, and

the anesthesia still didn't work. I suffered through that one.

Take your 1000 mg a day of Vitamin C and stop. If she didn't say

anything about the zinc, you probably can take the recommended amount

of that.

Best wishes on your surgery. I'm believing in a great outcome for

you!
