Guest guest
Hi Ladies, I just wanted to bring up something that I recently found....For all I know it might have been discussed during my brief hiatus. Some of you may have heard about this "new" contraceprtive device called the "FemCap." In case you haven't, let me give you a brief synopsis....FemCap is a non-latex, non-hormonal, non-allergenic silicone rubber cap that fits over the cervix to prevent sperm from entering the uterus. It is estimated that the FemCap may achieve up to 96-98% success in preventing pregnancy if used correctly. Other than the obvious, my issue here is that the FDA approved the use of this device in 2003. Hello.....it's 2006 now and I guarantee the FDA has learned a lot about silicone from implanted woman. But they knew a lot then and still they continue to endorse the use of silicone! And then to make matters worse, the use of FemCap is being proudly advertised by the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine! My feeling on that? Even natural medicine bears some ignorance in practice as well as pratictioners. My point being ladies, that again....it all comes down to keeping yourselves informed and taking charge of your own bodies. It's obvious that even natural medicine is seriously flawed so please don't believe everything you hear or read simply because it comes from a "natural" source/store/magazine/book. We, as consumers, have a tendency (as well as a reasonable expectation) to think that just because something is labeled natural, whole, organic, etc. it must be good for us. We just automatically trust GNC and the people working behind the counter. Shame on us....I truly believe that this has seriously compromised the integrity of "natural medicine" as a whole. Especially coming from a school of alternative medicine....kinda makes me wonder where they were educated. Hmmmm? Christene
