Guest guest
Hi Marcy, It is great to hear from you!! I'm almost 6 months post-explant, and I think it's great news that two months post-explant you no longer have the flu-like symptoms. That's a step in the right direction. Exercising, eating right, taking Primal Defense, the sauna - those are all going to help you quite a bit. I felt very little improvement for the first 4 or 5 months, although my blood pressure did drop within the first month, and the headaches did, too. This past month, the brain fog has eased up quite a bit, and the joint pain has gotten much better. It still flares up on some days, but it's improving. Your friends are right about the fact that there are ways to dress that enhance a small bustline. Since I'm 45 and only had the implants for six months, I'm an old pro at dressing to maximize the bust!! During the six months that I had implants, I was upset that I had to change my style of dressing, because instead of trying to draw attention that that area, I now needed to push attention away. Oddly enough, the clothes to wear when you're small really do accentuate a small top and bring the focus to that area. There are things to avoid as well. No matter what size we are, we all either have to draw attention to or from an area, so it's not just that we're small breasted. Everyone dances the dance, because no one is perfect. Some days are better than other days for me. You were explanted by Dr Feng, right? Marcy , " auntsisnj " <auntsisnj@...> wrote: > > Hi Marcy, > > It is great to hear from you!! Guest guest
Hi Marcy, Yes, I explanted with Dr. Feng. You're so right, some days are better than others. Today is one of those not so good days. I took a long bath this morning in Epsom Salts, and unfortunately I must be herxing because I don't feel that great. For the most part, the past month has been pretty good, but I guess if the Epsom Salts caused a herx then there's still more healing left to do. I already knew that, but I was hoping I'd have more hills than valleys at this point. I'm only about 6 months post explant, so I know I've got a ways to go. Guest guest
Sis, I too am having a not so good day. I am thinking it is do to the change in weather. It is rainy and cold here. My hips and ankles hurt so bad today. I just turned on my sauna and hope my kids cooperate, so I can sit in it for a bit. Did Dr Feng give you any advice as far as how to help aid your body in healing? She did give me a printout with a list of foods that are good antioxidents and foods that contain more chemicals. She told me that it takes about a year. I am hopeful, but wonder about my arthritis. Isn't that something that once you have it you always have it? Guest guest
I would like to know about the osteoarthritis, as well. I have two thumbs that are useless. I open my shampooh in the shower by squeezing the bottle with my elbows. I've had my thumbs injected with steroids by my orthopod, wtice, without relief. Prior to making any connection with this symptom to my implants, I'd planned to have reconstructive surgery on my thumbs. I will consider, instead, waiting until after my explantation to see whether I have improvement. I doubt that, though, as there are surely structural changes in the joint and that should not repair. Guest guest
Whatever you do, do not let them put in silicone joints, as they are causing a mass of problems. My osteoarthritis improved dramatically after explant. Many others did also, but detoxing your body is a must. Guest guest
Hi Marcy and Sis I have to chime in, and tell you that I'm also having a not so good day. But I helped friends move twice this week, thinking I am all better and can do anything - ha! I think this chest pain will take some rest to heal, rather than detox. My husband wants to treat me to a Blizzard at DQ right now, and I am so worried about going off my organic dairy free sugar free diet that I don't know if I can even enjoy it if I do. Such decisions! Marcy, I'm so glad you posted. I have arthritis too, I believe from immune dysfunction caused by implants. I am six months out too, and have seen A LOT of improvement - though very up and down for six months. Just recently, after a lot of detox efforts, I have been feeling wonderful. What kind of sauna did you get? I have been going to a local place to the IR sauna, which works for me, but I am wondering about what you purchased and how it works. Hang in there Marcy - you'll start to see improvement soon. Guest guest
I am writing a paper on cosmetic surgery, with an emphasis on breast augmentation, and how the media (especially TV) advises consumers that happiness can be bought. I registered into this group Saline Support, and I am now receiving at least 20 emails per day and am having a hard time sorting through these emails. I want to get to the heart of these "explant anniversaries" etc. I have been reading some great responses about various women's explant experiences, but do you happen to know any statistics that the Saline Support group promotes or supports as credible? There are hundreds and hundreds of websites with different facts and figures. It is overwhelming. I even tried to email The American Society of Aesthetic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, but they have not responded. It could be that they possibly did not appreciate the question I posed to them. I asked them why the numbers on both of their websites for the year 2003 Teens that received breast augmentations under the age of 18 were drastically different. The American Society of Aesthetic Surgery numbers state- 11,326 , while the American Society of Plastic Surgeons number state- 3,841.What could be the reason behind this dramatic difference? Thank you so much for your time! Guest guest
Marcy, usually my bad days are the cold and/or rainy days, but I was surprised today when I felt poorly and it was beautiful out. Dr. Feng didn't give me that list, maybe you can share it with me if it's not too lengthy. I've seen others on this site whose joint pain has eased up or gone away completely, so I'm hopeful. Sometimes I get discouraged on the bad days. Guest guest
Actually, it does. It happens very often. The thumb basal joint when affected by osteoarthritis will be affected during any grasping and pinching motion. When progressed to a severe stage, there are several surgical correction procedures to either fure the two bones that comprise the joint (resulting in stiffening and motion loss) or to implant a tendon from the partient or, else, a synthetic rubber piece. Guest guest
Hi Marcy, I've had company the much of the past week, so I'm behind on messages . . . However, I'm delighted to know you're making such great strides in recovering! . . . And you're right, the infrared sauna will help you immensely! The infrared light penetrates tissue deeply helping the body activate its own healing powers! You'll have up and down days for some time . . . but keep the goal in mind! It's well worth the effort! I know your family is thrilled to see you getting your life back! . . Hugs and prayers, Rogene
Guest guest
---Thumbs?? Really - that's interesting. My thumbs are the worst thing on my body right now! It's sure reassuring to read about different symptoms that I have. It's validating. Sorry you're in so much pain. I've been taking Dong Quai and Calcium/Magnesium with some pain relief results - also Arnica - a homeopathic remedy. It helps with stress as well. Guest guest
Osteoarthritis in the thumb joint (= basal joint arthritis) the most common form and affects 1 in 4 women after the age of 40, unrelated to implantation. Guest guest
It's great to hear from you Marcy! Thanks for the update. I know how hard these issues are to deal with, especially the emotional ones, but healing will come. It is so nice that you have examples of strong women to get through those difficult days. It does really just come down to having a strong positive outlook, and being thankful for what we DO HAVE, and not focusing on the negatives or mourning what we've lost. Mourning the past is like pedaling backward....keep positive and look to the future with great expectations of what God can do in your life! He won't disappoint you! Pattymkkinzy1 <mkkinzy@...> wrote: Hi Ladies,I haven't been posting much lately, as my hubby has been gone again -- but I have been trying to keep up with all the messages. I have to tell you all how much it means to know others are dealing with a lot of my same issues. Tomorrow I am two months post explant, so I wanted to give everyone an update on how I am doing. I can honestly say that I am REALLY thankful to have my breast implants gone. One of the first things I have had relief from is I now wake up every day and no longer have to deal with tender breasts. It was one of those lovely side effects that I dealt with thinking it was all part of a day with perfect breasts. It is also so nice to be able to move without having that extra weight and pain in my chest. I never really noticed this part until I had my implants out. It is nice being me again. )About 6 months after I got my implants I started having bouts where I felt like I had the flu. This got worse as time went on. The last year with implants I felt like I was in a fog. I now feel so much better and haven't had one flu-like episode since I got my implants out. I kind of relate it to pregnancy. You feel sick for 9 months, then you give birth and you feel better again.I am still battling with joint problems. I have had some days with relief which gives me hope, but then things will get bad again. I get burning sensations, especially in my ankles. I also will have days where I am REALLY stiff. Everything cracks and the aches and pains get worse. I am hopeful though that I have had some days without. I also had arthritis show up everywhere on my x-rays that I had done this past year, so I suppose that explains some of my problems. I am 30 years old with arthritis. (I also am really battling with the fatigue. It has been rough, especially when my husband is gone. My 3 kids keep me hopping!! But not having that constant flu feeling has REALLY helped. Here is what I have been doing since explant. I have really made an effort to eat healthier. I try to eat organic whenever possible, but have found that it isn't always as convenient. Eating organic has also been hard on our budget, so I have been focusing more on buying certain foods. I am taking Primal Defense -- 2 a day. I also have drank the vinegar a few times. I was doing the epsom bath, ginger, or vinegar soaks daily up until a few weeks ago when I got my sauna. I love it and have used it every day since I got it. I am excited about the benefits from using a sauna and have also noticed how good it feels when my joints are flaring up. I still try to do a couple of soaks a week. I have also started to do brisk walking. I am usually pushing kids, so I feel like I get a good workout. It is hard though to muster up the energy some days when I am fatigued or in pain. The emotional part of this whole ordeal has been tough. Some days are better than others. I totally feel for the ones that post about having a hard time with their appearance. My husband has been really supportive, so that has been huge for me. I too feel very self consious at times and find myself covering myself up. Easter weekend was especially hard for me. We went to visit family. First of all the trip/drive (several hours) took a lot out of me then we stayed at a hotel with a pool. I brought my one piece swimsuit along thinking it would work. WRONG!! It actually flipped over on the top, so the seam was hanging out. It was horrible and I felt just crushed. I felt sooo unattractive and I missed the attention I used to get when I walked into a pool area. I have locked the door when bathing, quickly covered up if I heard my husband coming in while I am changing, I even worried about his walking in while I was using the sauna and kept a towel around me. I also have very large scars that go down quite a ways under my breasts. I don't scar pretty either, so it doesn't help matters. It has just been recently that I have started to feel better about my self image. I feel like if I am confident then others will view me that way. I have a good friend who is a size A, so she has been really supportive. She has given me some good advice on what to wear that is flattering when flat. Like halter top swim wear. It does wonders. It is funny how people assume things -- like now because I am small they assume I am athletic. I want to say, "trust me looks can be deceiving" -- ha ha!! My father who works at a college told me about 2 woman who work with him that have had their breasts removed due to cancer. I remember meeting one of the woman a few years back in passing. She has battled cancer twice now. Both woman have such an awesome outlook and could care less about their chest size. I try to find strength from individuals like this. It is hard though as we are an appearance driven society.Thank you for reading my post. Also thank you all for your posts and sharing. It keeps me going!!! Love and hugs, Marcy Talk is cheap. Guest guest
Well, all I can say is that I had no joint swelling and my thumbs were fine, and then I got implants and mysteriously within a month my thumbs started swelling up, along with many other joints. Guest guest
I believe you completely. Unfortunately, physicians are trained scientists and they are trained to trust facts as they fit The Scientific Method. Since it's not possible at this juncture to conclusively connect that symptom with your implants and to conclusively eliminate coincidence, that, alone, isn't meaningful. How,ever, if the symptoms subsided following explant, THAT lends more credence. Guest guest
That's probably why I lost my trust in most physicians after getting ill right after getting implants. Guest guest
If The Scientific Method were always scientific, then it would be more credible in these instances. I am a trained scientist, and I don't think much of the studies that have been done on implants. If you have looked at the history it is amazing. As soon as a study is done that shows there might be a problem, the IRG or some other Dow funded organization does a study to contradict it. The study methadology is suspect. Unfortunately because of the political environment, we are left in the dark to see what works. I can tell you that removing my implants worked. My health problems have subsided. I was diagnosed with SLE, MS and autoimmune thyroid disease. I still take thyroid medication, but my blood tests that had been very abnormal for 5 years are now normal. > > > > > > > > Hi Marcy, > > > > > > > > Yes, I explanted with Dr. Feng. Guest guest
There are also peer-reviewed studies that show women's health improved after explant. This was particularly true with women who had ruptured implants. > > > > > > > > Hi Marcy, > > > > > > > > Yes, I explanted with Dr. Feng. You're so right, some days > are > > > > better than others. Guest guest
I agree that there were insufficient studies.....regrettably, this is more of a governmental issue as surgeons (in particular) are NOT taught to think but are taught to repeat, repeat, repeat a zillion times and. as such, just have not historically questioned much at all. PHYSICIAN DO NO HARM in this country is left largely to the government. Please know that you are preaching to the choir. I am already a believer and don't need convincing. I am merely pointing out the importance of understating rather than overstating in our presentations in order to defuse the concerns that these claims are histrionic....... Guest guest
I've known other professionals who suggest that we understate rather than overstate as well, so that we look "credible." I think on a support group it's a different story. We come here to share what we are going through and to get help with these symptoms through shared experiences and suffering, girlfriend to girlfriend. I don't think we need to get all twisted about our discussions and if they fall into proper patterns for presentation. It's just about chatting about what we're dealing with and what we are doing to get better. It becomes quite evident when clusters of women are dealing with the same issues. The far reaching effects of implant disease remain unknown. Who is to say what implants are or are not doing to the human body? All we can do is compare notes. It becomes pretty evident when completely healthy women start showing the same types of symptoms after getting implants. If I've learned anything at all in this breast implant issue, it's that things aren't always what they seem....so it's okay to think outside the box. In fact, it's necessary.
