Guest guest
Lynne... Throughout the years I have had cultures that come back negative for yeast and some that come back positive. Have no idea how to explain that. Diane M

Guest guest
Diane, One of my (idiot) Dr.'s told me that some cultures come back positive even theough there is no yeast infection because we all have the bacteria in our bodies all the time anyway. I don't know. Thanks. Lynne --- Teddyberen@... wrote: >Lynne... >Throughout the years I have had cultures that come back negative for yeast >and some that come back positive. Guest guest
Hi Patty, I would be a bit concerned about the vials leaking into the cloth. It could be that the whole thing has become contaminated. You can start with less starter but it will take longer for the brewing process OR you could start with maybe a half of gallon for your first brew. Did you get a SCOBY with those vials? Guest guest
It is much better to start with a mushroom or SCOBY but you can start it without one. I wish you lived closer, I would get you started but I am S. Cali. I am sure there is someone in your area. I remember someone near you helping someone else get started. I will try to find the post. Guest guest
Patty, I am sorry but we have been through this vial thing with another list member. As far as I know she never had anything develop from them. And didn't get a batch going until she got a scoby from another list member. Luv, Sprite " When you drink the water, remember the spring. Guest guest
You mean a little mushroom? Guest guest
Patty, My best advice is for you to wrap them repack them and send them back and ask for a refund. Then if no one on list can send you one, get in touch with Ed Kasper, and buy a scoby from him. I have had his cultures and they are excellent, and reliable scobys. Guest guest
Hmmm, why is it that that figures?sigh. Well one person has offered which I turned down not to be rude but because I thought I had it already. Well hopefully that person or another in the Houston area will come through for me. What a pain. Guest guest
Patty, Please sweetie, don't let this get you down, Kombucha will make it all worth while. It will come altogether for you in no time. Just be patient and take one step at a time. And think of how lucky you are that as a member of this list you found out about this. Think of the people who get those vials and try to make a health beverage with it and are perhaps drinking god knows what. Or walk away thinking that all this they heard about Kombucha is nothing more than lies. Not knowing of course that they didn't get kombucha at all. So chin up dearheart, pretty soon you'll be chanting chin-chin:) Companies like that are a disgrace to the kombucha community, but there is nothing we can do about it except to hope that people find out about them eventually and seek other means of getting cultures. Guest guest
I agree re: Ed Kasper the happy herbalist is how i got started. My original came through an ebay purchase but it didn't do well
Guest guest
I am going to include the web page addy of where I bought the culture from. I must say that I am a little disappointed to learn that they sold me something that in likelihood will not work. I guess I am lucky that so much of the culture spilled so I went to the list to ask for info. It will save me time this way. Dang, I wish that it was not so. I like to trust. I did go to Whole Foods so that I could buy some ready made and get started. I also have a very very sick cat on it. This cat by all rights will die. I am just hoping for a miracle. She is the one with the virus. I am the one with cancer and I am also hoping for a miracle for myself.
