Guest guest
Cindi, you're definitely entitled to your opinion. I had major surgery in the past and never experienced any problems afterwards, so my theory is that the implants made me sick, but different opinions are what makes the world go 'round. I also don't have Hashi's. I know someone on this group definitely has it, but I can't remember who!! Guest guest
Cindi - I think my immune system was funky to begin with, and I agree with you, adding the implants into the mix totally flared everything up. It's possible that those of us who get sick are somehow predisposed to immune problems, and either the foreign body or the chemicals in the implants add to the load and our body says " tilt " . Guest guest
Let me just clarify... a normal non-Hashi's person sould tolerate the thyroid hormone drop in levels after surgery without significant symptoms...I was alluding to Hashi's folks in which that drop would further exaccerbate the Hashi's. And please don't misunderstand...I do not doubt at all that implants can cause illness in folks. Again, common sense and logic tells you implanting a foreign object in the body can have all sorts of unforseen consequences. Just like with anything...one person can go get a root canal and have no problems...and another person ends up with permanent nerve damage from the novacaine injection. sometimes it's the luck/bad luck of the draw. I merely wanted to point out that...given some of the medical abstracts out there on Hashi's and implants...and the fact that this is such an underdiagnosed condition..that there are probably folks here (like me) who were already Hashi's before implants...and the implants/surgery worsened the condition to the point of no longer ignoring it. cindi --- In , " auntsisnj " <auntsisnj@...> wrote: > > Cindi, you're definitely entitled to your opinion. Guest guest
yes. i totally agree with that. we live in a world filled with environmental toxins..and some have been exposed moreso than others. I honestly don't see how Implants can be described as anything other than a toxin to our body. For some, it surely tipped the scale. Even now...with my hashi's..i have to eat organically, avoid household chemicals, etc...i'm at tolerance. I are cautious not to tip the scale any further. do many implant folks experience chemical sensitivities? That would seem logical to me too. (sorry - i haven't gone back and read all the posts) cindi > > Cindi - I think my immune system was funky to begin with, and I > agree with you, adding the implants into the mix totally flared > everything up. Guest guest
Cindi, Welcome, what you said wasn't a bad thing. I would have said the same thing a year ago. I was just having physical symptoms and didn't know it was related to my implants. I loved my augmented form up till my symptoms took over my life and I found out it was my implants making me ill. Then, I hated them, sitll loved they way they looked, but hated what they did to my body. I had mine saline in for almost six years. cindi22595 <cindi22595@...> wrote: I joined a little while ago - just out of curosity. I do have saline implants. Maybe it's a bad thing to say here, but I haven't had any problems...and like them. I do believe, however...that the surgery and maybe the implants...triggered my Hashi's from moderate into severe mode...which wasn't such a bad thing because it finally got me diagnosed and treated. Guest guest
It seems that many of us do now have chemical sensitivites. I didn't have them before, although I was sensitive to certain vitamins and medications, but I didn't have problems with other things. Ever since I had the implants (they're now explanted), I'm extremely sensitive to chemicals. Guest guest
yes, if they were ruining my life - i'd feel the same way. It is so bizarre how one person can have them in for 20+ years and no problems (i have a cousin like that - she has silicone too).... are there any statistics on the actual number of folks who have complications/illnesses from them...or do we have any idea?....as i imagine this is just one more thing the medical community doesn't want to be known because they lose $$$. cindi > > Cindi, > > Welcome, what you said wasn't a bad thing. Guest guest
I believe you just answered your own question Cindi. Because so many never get sick, some get sick at 6months or 6 years, or even 20 years. It is hard to keep track of them all. My PS did a six month check, I had no problems, then I have never heard from him again. I was never told what to watch for either. I think the PS in this country like it this way. They like to put them in, cash the check, then forget them. In order to get real numbers, there would have to be a law in place that would require all implanted to see an unbiased doctor every year. My noticeable symptoms came in the start of my 5th year, and then it took a year to put "two and two together." cindi22595 <cindi22595@...> wrote: yes, if they were ruining my life - i'd feel the same way. Guest guest
It is a shame that there aren't statistics, and your last sentence wraps it up pretty nicely - it's not something the implant manufacturers want publicized, and for whatever reason the government doesn't do anything about it even though many of us have filed complaints with the FDA. I think the medical community hides behind the data, which doesn't address people like us. Sis > > > > Cindi, > > > > Welcome, what you said wasn't a bad thing. Guest guest
Hi Cindi, I have Hashimoto's - diagnosed in 2003. However, this was 19 years after my implantation. I don't believe I had low thyroid in 1984, at age 30. I don't know if doctors really know what causes Hashimoto's.... it is not all that uncommon among middle aged women, from what I understand. And, I suspect an immune response from implants may cause or aggravate thryoid problem. But you know, I am just speculating, which from what I can tell is all doctors really can do with this. > > > > > > Cindi, > > > > > > If you're happy with them and choose to keep them, just continue > > to > > > keep your eye on any changes to your health. Guest guest
Hypo symptoms start very mild. My first indicatoin was impetigo after childbirth at age 23...and then in that year, extreme sore throat that sent me to an ENT. I also had some bladder infections. by age 33, I had the more common symptoms...constipation, some adult acne, and fatigue...and fleeting depression and anxiety...also some weight gain..some OCD. By age 40, i was collecting more and more hypo symptoms...and they became more severe after my implants at age 39. Hashi's is said to be autoimmune which implies a genetic predisposition with an environmental/hormonal trigger. My trigger was childbirth. Many kids with family predisposition are being triggered now by the Hep. B vaccine (the mercury). My mother died undiagnosed...but her autopsy clearly indicated a Hashi's thyroid gland...and that explains the numerous health problems she had doing her life. And I can see where several women in my family had it. A cousin recently died and her autopsy too showed a Hashi's gland. Hashi's is no longer a middle-aged woman's disease...many young folks are receiving this diagnosis now. guys and gals. Hashi's is treated poorly because they want to use synthetic thyroid hormones and dose by TSH. Far better results are usually achieved with thyroid extract (used for over 100 years before the pharm industry came up with a patentable synthetic). Dosing by symptoms and Free levels works better than TSH dosing too. I went from age 23 with symptoms...until age 48 at diagnosis. This is not so uncommon unfortunately. cindi --- In , " Molly Bloom " <mollyb54@...> wrote: > > Hi Cindi, > I have Hashimoto's - diagnosed in 2003. However, this was 19 years after my > implantation. Guest guest
Cindi, I had TSH, free T3 and T4 tested, but I don't recall if I had the antibodies tested. Guest guest
Sis... What was the reference range for your TSH? The reference range for mine was 0.35 to 6.20. My TSH was 0.45. My bound T4 was 7.83 (ref = 4.5 to 12.0) Free T4 was 0.77 (ref = 0.71 to 1.85) Free T3 was 295 (ref = 230 to 420) Thyroglobulin was 17.9 (ref = 2.0 to 35.0) Thryroglobulin Antibodies was less than 20. (ref is less than 20) Thyroid Stimulating Hormone was 105% (Baseline is <= 125%) Any comments anyone....is my free T4 too low??? > > > > > > Cindi, > > > > > > I had TSH, free T3 and T4 tested, but I don't recall if I had > the > > > antibodies tested. Guest guest
Might be a good idea Sis. Do you have any of the other results...like T3, T4 bound and free..etc... I just think a panel of all the test tells a better picture...but ultimately it is also how you may be feeling. A trial of ARmour ..to see if it helps is what I would want .... Also...did you know that in order for your thyroid to work effectively it needs selenium??? At the moment I forget the exact mechanism...but it is needed for your body to convert thyroxin to T4 or vice versa.....or something like that ..... My holistic doctor told me this. Selenium is in my vitamins....... > > > > > > > > > > Cindi, > > > > > > > > > > I had TSH, free T3 and T4 tested, but I don't recall if I had > > >the > > > > > antibodies tested. Guest guest
, I just happened to read about selenium in a link that Cindi sent - I wasn't aware of that. I do have my latest test results, but for some reason I've misplaced them. I'll have to do a search and destroy mission around the house, they've got to be here somewhere. The only thing I remember is TSH was somewhere around 3.0.
