Guest guest
Here are some new web sites and a new approach for type 2 diabetics (again, from our low-carbing diabetics group: Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 08:20:50 PDT Subject: Re: GO-Diet vs Bernstein > >Subject: Re: LDL Cholesterol >Hi Jack. I went to your diet page and read it. It's a lot like what I eat on >Bernstein. Are you in any way different? Thanks, Dr Bernsteins book is an excellent reference for diabetics, especially type 1. The GO-Diet was developed for obesity and heart disease. Since 50% of all obese people develop diabetes and 80% of type 2 diabetics are obese, it is not surprising you see similarities between the diets. Our current research is noe centered on treating early diagnoses type 2 diabetics with the GO-Diet. The major differences between the diets is the way Bernstein counts protein. The GO-Diet has 4 main legs. 1. it is low carb (less then 50g/day and no more than 15g at any one sitting). 2. It emphasizes the intake of monounsaturated fats. 3. It is a very high fiber diet to control cholesterol and 4. it emphasizes probiotic foods, especially live culture, sugar free fermented milk products on a daily basis to stimulate the immune system and control yeast colonization. There are no supplements required, but a daily multivitamin and mineral is probably a good insurance policy for most people. The diet works with most overweight individuals and our research shows it has benefits with type 2 daibetics and overweight children(both under a physicians guidance). Jack M.
