We have Tofurkey every year. If you are a turkey lover you won't appreciate it,

but for someone on a plant based diet it's a great thing. I can't describe the

taste - it doesn't taste like turkey, but it's good.

It comes with dressing and faux drumsticks.

Has anyone ever had one? How do they taste?

Tofurky finally hits its stride

Turtle Island Foods will sell its 1 millionth Tofurky this week and expects $10

million in sales in 2006, despite the laughter it met when the Tofurky brand

launched a decade ago. Americans are expected to buy $1.38 billion analog meat

products in 2006, according to Mintel International. BusinessWeek

I follow a primarily vegetarian diet and we have been having tofurkey for

the last 4 thansgivings. They are pretty good. Don't even begin to think

it will taste like turkey though. It has the chewy texture of tofu

although more firm and less watery than most tofu. I strongly recommend

basting with recommended sauces (recipe on the box) and adding additional

fluid because if it dries out the outer layer gets really tough. Buy the

gravy - often sold separately for extra flavor. Would recommend everyone

try it!

Happy Thanksgiving.

For those who don't like tofurky, another alternative would be Quorn's turk'y

roast. I really like the texture and taste of Quorn products. For information

go to www.quorn.com.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

In your signature you have " Nondiet Dietitian " curious, does this mean staying

away from the traditional weight loss programs?

Not sure if I am ready for tofurky - can you buy it in small quantities to try

it out?

Hi ,

Yes, by NON-DIET I mean that I avoid clients who want to follow diets, and the

ones that I see are coached into changing those habits that sabotage their

efforts to lose weight. I developed my own program, and persons who make the

changes are very successful with weight loss. As it goes with anything, you can

lead a horse to the water, but you can't make him drink.

About the tofurkey - I don't believe I've seen it in individual servings, but

this year I bet if you look in the organic frozen section you'll find an

individual dinner. Buying the whole tofurkey is expensive - around $25, so if

you don't like it that would be a shame. I've also not seen it at any other

time of the year either, but I think things are changing and more people are

choosing meatless meals.

Have a happy holiday!
