Why not switch to Lente or UltraLente for your background insulin, to smooth

out your response further? You can even inject twice a day, dividing your

dose in half, for more smoothness. (No personal experience ... just reading

comments from type 1's in the groups.)

What's " low " at 2 am?

What's fine am readings?

If you are below 80 mg/dl at 2 am this might mean that your basic insulin dosage

at bedtime is too high.
