It wouldn't surprise me at all if one of the most significant reason's

why their are more women with SBS than men is becuase of these

products. And the fact that women use more of them than men.

My personal belief is that if women are indeed impacted more, it's more due to

hormonal issues and the fact that things like pregnancy can trigger auto-immune

related problems for which one has a genetic pre-disposition. I also believe

(and I think there are studies that show) that women are more likely to seek

help for their medical issues than men, who tend to " tough it out " , which is

what my husband does. And, personally, I'm certainly a fine example of a woman

that uses minimal chemicals (i.e. cosmetics/perfumes/hairsprays) and always

have, so based on my experiences, the idea that these things contributed to my

SBS issues isn't true at all. Also, I'm equally as likely to be made ill due a

man overdoing the aftershave or hair mousse as I am by a woman overdoing the

perfume and hairspray, so my experiences are that men use as many chemicals as

women, particularly when most men I know typically use tons of anti-prespirant.

Be Well,

B

I haven't checked out angel's site yet-- I plan to. Just wanted to be

able to take the time and look at it fully. Way to go Angel.Regarding

the products I guess we are all different. Some men I have more

trouble than woman but it is an individual thing. Some men wear that

strong deodorant, shower wash, and cologne. Some people I don't even

notice any scents at all and then some fill up the entire house with

their scent. I can't imagine even healthy people standing those

types of people. It just seems like every time you turn around they

are making some new air freshner. Recently my husband was given a

grape flavored bowling ball. Guess they have them in all scents. So

now I can't go watch him bowl. They stopped the smoking there but now

everyone has a scented bowling ball. God help us.

In this case, as opposed to my other post, I am

going to 'speculate' on why women may be more

vulnerble to many disorders, as this is not

unusual that women are more affected by a number

of disorders. I do not think women just go to

doctor more. I think their bodies are more

complex and easier to things to go wrong in more

comples 'anything', more complex things even in

mechanical and electronics have more things go

wrong. My experience is that women are less

whiney about ailments as we are so used to

pain..at least I am. I used to be doubled over

with pain monthly but had to go to work, school,

etc anyway and starting about 35, frequent

migraines which are more frequent in women,

believed to be influenced by hormones. Women

experience more migraines. I think doctor DO

think women just 'go to' the doctor more often

and often ignore women because of it and I'm very

offended by it. That's why I can go in and say

I've had a sore throat for 2 years and I'm

ignored. I waited so long since I thought a

medication was doing it. I went off of

medication and sore throat didn't go away. I

still didn't go for another six months. That's

just my experience and other women I know.
